They're AIs who basically live in their world's equivalent of the Matrix. As AIs they have literally no limits, and many of the AIs tend to choose very whimsical appearances. I had wanted an Anubian style jackal character for years because I find the design really appealing, but I never could figure out how to make one that really felt "unique" until this design just hit me.
