Looks to me like she's a succubus in the style of DMFA. If so, that may be her clan marking - something which magically appears when they come of age and is the only thing they can't hide through shapeshifting.

...but yeah. I think DMFA whitewashes it to some degree by having magical tattoos (which a 'cubi clan mark is often mistaken for).

In my Terrae setting they use scarring for that purpose, though you can imagine how few people do that.
In my science fiction stories they use genetic treatments to make the fur grow a different color. It's not as detailed as tattoo on skin since the fur can lay in different ways and mess up the pattern, but they do it.
