Tough one this one, had to redo it halfway through because it just wouldn't quite wanna work out... But eh, sometimes that just happens and you go down a wrong path. Annoying for the extra hours it brings to a picture but what can you do. Worst part about it was that i don't really know what was wrong either, so it wasn't even a learning experience... Oh well! I guess i just forgot how drawing works at my first try!

I love these colors in this so much! I've always admired how rough/textured your paintings are, while still conveying the needed information - for some reason I keep getting drawn to the foot and how it disappears into the wall, but also gets pulled out by the subdued cool light in the front and the really hot warm light in the back. ♥

Haha thank you very much! It's always so incredibly interesting what other people think about your art. Really the thought process with the foot was "Nobody will look here anyway, so this'll be fine" and yet here you are :D And yeah, truth be told i really struggle with textures myself still, it's such a back and forth between some pictures being rougher, some less so. It's tough to really find the sweetspot i want, especially since it's probably a sweetspot that is a movable target depending on the scale of the scene of the picture... but hey, would be a bit boring if it were easy .
Indeed, sometimes i scrap a drawing completely, but i always take a look at it first so i can see what went wrong.
My drawing skills have come from a lot of observation and trial and error. I never studied at an art school i teach myself by observing art of others and using it as reference to make my own (no, i don't trace any art, just use it as reference).
By the way, i practice so much that i already have a giant pile of drawings in my room, maybe i will post some of those here in FA one day.

I had to tone down the wind because of it! The character got a fantastic long scarf that would work perfectly just flowing in the winds in a scene like that. But nooooooo, that would mean it would look kinda strange to have the loincloth just be more or less still... And so the scarf isn't nearly as prominent as it could have been.
I'd say if you're running around the rooftops in a scarf and loincloth candid paintings done by awd's are one of the risks you take.
Looks great though and I can't say from memory if you're tried tackling this type of background and architecture before, definitely looks like a challenge.

...just need the shadow 'lanes' off the form projecting out into the air beyond his form from the bright light from behind him. - probably sallow darkish yellow to red because of the ambient light in the background much darker though on the unlit side facing us though. the lanes would be faint but noticeable in this back-lit illumination light giving a dramatic effect of life.
It would of course create a nearly surreal effect in adding to the dramatic effect. This would add to the realism of the form.
I would have a difficult time in attempting to make a pictorial representation of what i mean, but I've just been researching the Julia fractal plots (http://acko.net/blog/how-to-fold-a-julia-fractal/) in complex mathematics and then saw this drawing. It dawned on me that through James Gurney effects of contrasts you'd see the shadows in darker contrast looking like 'lanes' off the contours of the Kodiacone and the bright light behind him into the darker void of the light illuminating the background.
The lanes would be subtle. they would of course be more noticeable upon the building than on the Kodiacone's form in the light emanating from behind him, they would be near invisible on his form though. really well done though.
I've yet to apply most of James Gurney's instruction to my own artwork yet but I understand the method. I could do in in oils or pigment most probably, but computer art is in light painting nearly the inverse of an opposite to painting in hues.

Thank you, yeah i'm not entirely sure how visible they'd be given that the light in the window is supposed to be pretty diffuse which in turn wuldn't make the shadow very distinct either. Thank you though for taking the time to write it down, i know which effect you mean :)
