A piece I did for this year's Operation Gaia, an art project where artists create pieces based on prompts (mine was "Nest"), and then auction the art and donate the funds to the National Audubon Society.
The bird is inspired by my friend's falconry bird, a Cooper's Hawk, who is both intense and in some ways (to my odd brain), maternal. What sort of nest would a wild creature of the forests have? What would she collect? Nothing so gentle and sweet as baubles and jewelry.
Watercolor on hot-press Fabriano, 8X10 inches. I will post a journal entry when this piece is up for auction, which should be next month.
