thats a weird phenomenon that a lot of artists have picked up on apparently! fsr loose sketches tend to look better then tied down lineart, and tho i never understood it it's still smth i see in my own work all the time

i read some kind of article on the internet (which means we have literally no idea if it's true or not) that because we don't see real life with harsh edges (for the most part we're viewing with two eyes, which means we're always looking at a blurring of two edges in reality, and real life doesn't have lines to fill in the colours anyway), we find looking at smoothness to be somewhat uncomfortable? i never really looked into it too much but i think back to it now and again.
once i was in a neuroscience lecture and our professor just stood there for a while monologueing on how nothing we ever see is real or it was always a step out of the actual 'real world' because of processing delays

I can imagine this as a casual slice-of-life wholesome-but-funny crazy characters, like One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest with dogs instead of mental patients and a back city alleyway instead of the mental asylum.
