Those are some pretty awesome rocks, not gonna lie. Love the light gradient with fully black shadows; that's something I've been experimenting with lately too.

I really like working with black placement when I can make it work! Years back I would try it and fail horribly since I tried to see the black as being the same as regular shading and... it's quite a bit different. To me, anyway! Takes so much thought X0X

Yeah, black placement is definitely a skills that demands careful application... Like you said, I think what took me a long time to figure out was that you don't typically use it for shading everything; just on the most recessed areas and/or places opposite a strong light source. But when it's thoughtfully used, it really adds gravity and helps remove potentially distracting visual clutter or equally distracting blank space!
