Great work Stealth!
Really like the colour scheme, anagolous blue works well with the brown. Overall I am quite liking the design, I will certainly draw him more!
It is interesting how you kept the original outfit but managed to add a couple additions to it so that it tells you more about the character. Hm seeing him inspect that rock makes me wonder, is it a good idea to have A character interact with something to show more about their personality or by giving them props that arent part of their outfit so to speak? Never really thought about doing that. Hm.
It seems like there is something to learn from most of your piece maybe haha. Something else I am curious about is. If f this is one way to depict reptile characters, what made you depict Valia in a different way? Was it to make her more cute? (I imagine that having rounder shapes is more "appealing" so to speak)
Or was it for a different reason? Whatever the reason is I am still very happy with both of these designs. :)

Honestly, anything you can use to show character is fair game. I think props help a lot, though the character should always function without them. There are a million different ways to show each of these characters and I sort of decide on the fly how I'm going to work with it for poses like this. And thank you!
