Well, as I've mentioned in my journal, I've had some major problems when I tried to move on to 3ds max 2010.
I gave up on that finally.
This flash shows what I got done in 2010, and what I have to remake again in 3ds max 2009. (scene files aren't compatible) It may not look like much but it took a lot of time. Luckily I found a way to export morph targets so that I don't have to remodel them. whee.
Anyway, I just though to let you all look at something while I'm trying to scrape together lost pieces of motivation. :/
This is preview 'rendering.' That's why there's some strange stuff visible. (eye "look at" - lines etc.)
There's many things still missing that will hopefully be in the final version. Luckily I realized that I can't render this in max 10 before I had finished everything in the scene. (expressions and morphs etc...)
duh.

While I'm fiddling with max again first try rebuilding your normal maps for your 2010 materials using this application, http://www.xnormal.net/.
If that does not work and you can export your animation into FBX format which plays well across multiple software packages and export your materials from the material editor which should also be compatible with the previous version, I don't have max 2009 installed at the moment to test that theory though >_> . At worst you have to rebuild the materials. if you want to export the original rig for future animations use FBX since it should maintain most of skinning an rigging parameters.
Well, I "only" have to animate everything again. I had the scene in max 09 form without any animation. I tried to export as FBX format but it didn't help. Many things got messed up. (maybe because I use few plugins for rigging and stuff.) It might work with standard max tools though.
Anyway, I think I've had enough of max 10. (at least until they fix it)

Yeah right. This is possibly one of the most complex pieces of 3D rendering I've seen in a long time. Most of the 3D animations I've seen deal with a simple stage (grass with a few walls, floor with a few walls, etc.) I can see you're building an actual 3D map with that animation complete with sidewalks and only you know what else. The amount of effort, however incomplete, is clearly visible if you pay attention to the surrounding stuff (pillars, pots, etc.)
This is one of the most complicated animations (secondlife doesn't count) I've seen in the furry fandom. Trust me, it shows you spent a lot of time on this.

Owww... damn :( Sucks to have lost that amount of work...
I couldn't find a solution to the problem you had, but then again, all I have is google and no knowledge of the subject :x
But :) if you are gonna try again in 2009, then at least I can say you seem to have the walk animations looking pretty damn good... So you won't get me tearing into that quite so fast next time ;3
May you have more luck with the next one :x
