ANTHRO
It had taken a few days, but at last I was able to stand upright and walk around. It felt…weird, unusual and unnatural to me as I was essentially walking around on the ball of my foot with my heel held at an angle. If it weren’t for this furred tail of mine which swayed behind me, I would never have developed the balance to stay up.
Even though 3 days had passed since I awoke upon this interstellar ship, I still felt weak, which seemed reasonable having been in a coma and frozen for over 300 years. But something still wasn’t right…even though I didn’t remember much before this aside from I had learned on my file, I knew I needed to eat.
Maybe it was my body’s reaction to being frozen, or maybe going this long without food had made it to where I had no appetite? I knew my weakness had to be attributed to my lack of nutrition, and was no longer shock to what had happened, or what I had become.
“Oh dear, you look rather frail today, have you not eaten?”, a soft voice called from behind I recognized instantly.
“…No, I’m…not hungry…” I said weakly, using a wall to hold myself upright.
“You must be! You haven’t eaten in three…” she paused for a moment.
“hundred years?” I quipped.
“…days…come on, let’s go to the dining hall,” she suggested. I felt her grab my right arm and toss it over her shoulder, which fell limply. I needed the support, for I felt as though any minute I could pass out.
This ship was rather large and robust, with multiple decks connected by an internal magnetically powered tram. It was a small craft capable of carrying up to 3 occupants, but it was quick! Able to traverse the entire ship which could easily fit a small metropolis, within seconds.
We had to take the tram to get to the lower levels of the ship where the dining hall was. Aside from the tram, for most who preferred the more traditional method, they could either walk or tread upon the designated mobile conveyors which had certain pathways within the ship and several cross paths so one could get anywhere they wanted to with ease without disturbing those who wished to simply walk.
Thankfully we decided to take that route instead of walking, for I knew very soon Dr. Fraustfer would be carrying me the whole way.
“Did that file happen to reveal my name?” I asked her curiously; I didn’t read the file well enough to see where it was before she had summarized it for me before deleting it. It seemed she didn’t want me to know the truth behind my past, which made me very uneasy.
“Unfortunately, no…you truly do not remember?”
I dug in deep, trying to see the image of my human self again and to put a name with it, but fell short.
“I do not…” I said disappointedly.
“Well cheer up, this is a perfect opportunity to name yourself then! At last you can choose a name you like! So, what would you like to be called?” She asked excitedly.
I couldn’t think of anything, it felt so weird to form a name of my own when I knew one existed, but was lost…in the consciousness of my brain. One had to be there, it just had to!
“I…I don’t know…I can’t think clearly…”
It was no lie, I still felt foggy, unfocused and lethargic. “Oh, well perhaps after you get something to eat you will have the energy to come up with one,” she smiled.
We finally arrived at our destination, a large room with tables bolted to the floor and a wall lined with various teller machines.
“What’s this?” I asked confused
“These are dispensers which you can order anything you wish…though for you I’d start of with something a little more…subtle…than a full meal, but still give you the nutritious benefits all in one go without straining your stomach, which by now after…all this time…has undoubtedly shrunk,” she said as she helped me sit at a table. “Be right back…I’ll get you something.”
I watched her walk towards the dispensers, her proud white fur bouncing with every step, her fluffy tail swaying back and forth in a memorizing motion, almost making me hypnotized.
I had no idea what to expect as I watched a small plate spit out of the machine, what was on it I couldn’t tell from this distance. She returned with a plate with several different food varieties on it, some greens, something that looked like a jelly or jam, and a rounded piece of meat.
The strangest thing though, I could not smell it, even the meat. I figured with my new canine senses being far superior, I’d at least be able to smell something…but there was nothing. “Oh, sorry hon…that’s my plate, I’ll get yours one sec.”
I looked at her plate anxiously; it was a strange thing that I was not hungry, but I knew my body needed sustenance. Would I get a fulfilling meal like this?
She returned shortly afterward holding something in her furred palm. “Here you go, this will be a good start to boost your appetite and give you all the benefits of a meal like mine,” she said cheerfully opening her paw.
Laid upon it was three pills, a green pill, red pill and a blue pill, all so ridiculously small I became dissatisfied. “What the hell is this?!” I pointed to them, “That won’t fill me…”
“Oh, but they will, trust me! It’s just a condensed version of what I have, all for the purpose of easing your stomach and getting it used to being filled with something…”
“What if I can’t swallow them?! What if I…”
“You can chew them…which I preferred to do so anyway when I first started, and you’ll see why.” She cut me off.
I reluctantly took the blue pill and look at it suspiciously, clutching it between my clawed fingers and gave it a slight sniff…once again…nothing.
I barely opened my maw cautiously and placed it inside, fearful to let go. What if this was a poison? Or a drug to allow them to do more experiments on me? Would I wake up to be more of a monster than I already am?! A part of me wondered that, but another part trusted in her as she gave a soft smile of reassurance.
I finally let it drop on my tongue, feeling it stick to it like glue. Knowing my mouth was so dry I could not possibly swallow it without choking. The only thing I could do was chew it, so I pushed it between my teeth and bit down.
A felt a ‘pop’, the cracking of the soft exterior shell of the pill as I applied pressure. I expected nothing as usual, like with the smell. Devoid of all sensory stimulation and for it to be a trick or joke played upon my already confused and stressed brain.
But it was not, for suddenly the brittle, solid exterior gave way to a lush and flavorsome gooey interior. My maw was flooded with sweet succulent flavors, and immediately they registered in my brain what they were. Various dairy products: milk, yogurt, the taste of rich cheese, I could feel the cool refreshing sensation of milk and yogurt running down my throat, and could taste the cheese all mixed up in a wonderful concoction.
I gratefully and involuntarily chewed on that pill until it no longer existed and swallowing it with ease along with the rest of the flavors it mustered. I licked my lips clean, realizing I was actually salivating, my mouth no longer parched as I reached for the other two pills out of her hand.
“You see? Not so bad is it?” she taunted
“That was…quite interesting…” I said popping the green pill in.
As I began to chew I wondered what it would contain, as she began to dig into her own meal. “the meat we have on the ship is lab generated; artificial proteins and lipids. They made the ingestion of organical meats illegal…for obvious reasons of course.”
“I guess they took the saying ‘you are what you eat’ literally, huh?” I snickered, eliciting a blank stare from her as she quit chewing for a moment.
I ignored her protest and focused on the new flavors which invaded my senses; the strong vibrant taste of broccoli, leafy greens and the sweet taste of carrots, fruits and vegetables. I swear I could feel my body revitalize, the energy seeping into my muscles and the strength in my bones with every swallow.
“These flavors…” I continued to chew, “how did they create them? It…reminds me of Earth!” I said closing my eyes and remembering the images of each item containing the flavor; what a carrot looked like, broccoli, greens, all in my mind.
“We found DNA samples of different species of edibles in the lab where we found you, along with every known specie of animal which inhabited Earth. With them were detailed reports of each, what it was, the things’ purpose and use to humans. I guess they were storing them there in case any and all life ceased to exist, in the hopes of another intelligent species would discover it.” She explained.
“We took a few samples from their lab and synthesized a copy here, to further our research and understanding of your world,” She added, picking up a piece of one of the greens on her plate in between her clawed fingers; a piece of lettuce.
“Maybe we weren’t so dumb after all…us humans anyway,” I finished swallowing my delectable greens.
“’Us Humans?’” she repeated with a disdained breath, “I know it was tough to be changed like this, but believe me it’s for the best! The ‘Human’ part of you is no longer…that self-destructive drive and the desire to overcome the environment around you, is gone…embrace the present and the future and the realization of what you are…a wolf!” she sneered.
I snorted, “Yeah…well it doesn’t mean I have to like it…” as I popped in the red pill, biting down and tasting the juicy, wonderous sensation of biting into a good, thick and seasoned piece of steak. “Oh…god…but I do like this…”
She snickered and shook her head, “finish your meal and we will be on our way, you have a lot to learn to embrace your new lifestyle.”
That steak went down so wonderfully, and following it came the taste of chicken…nice, roasted chicken, a taste I adored and one that my brain registered as tasting like everything, that one monotonous stimulative flavor.
I felt my stomach swell, which was strange as it only contained the small amount of juice and saliva from those tiny pills, how could I be full? Perhaps it was shrunk after all…
I swallowed the rest of it down with the shell of the pill as I felt like a new man. Revitalized and nourished, the energy and satisfaction enveloping my body, lulling me in a pleasurable stupor. She had finished her plate and pushed it from her.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it, and am happy to see you are satisfied once more and that you are beside yourself…but I wish you would be happy with who you are now…surely this is better than being human. All the benefits of both worlds, merged into you; heighted senses, warm fur to protect your body from cold…you may not feel it now, but you will actually become stronger than you were as a man…you’ll see.” She encouraged, trying to entice me to change my mind about this whole ordeal of being a wolf and no longer fully human.
She got up from the table and snatched her plate, proceeding to toss it in the trash. She made it halfway there when something popped in my mind for the first time; an idea, a personalized designation to fill the void which had been missing for centuries.
“Um, Doctor?”
“yes?”

This is the only portion I've read so my comments are based on this part only.
Multiple interesting ideas revolving around in this story.
- The main character's need to recall the past conflicting with his present circumstances
- Dr. Fraustfer's role as advocate of the present
- The setting, which based upon my impression is a massive ship or station in space, but without indication of other people it came across as vast and empty
- Questions, such as how the main characters came to be there, why he was transformed (partly answered by the Doctor but not in an exhaustive manner), how long recovery will take, why his sense of smell is not working, and what happens after he is fully recovered?
Naming himself seems like the first step in taking back control of his life. Or is it hearkening back to a past memory?
Good writing.

Thanks for all the feedback, it's greatly appreciated! Yeah I'm kicking myself in the butt here, I was focusing so much on telling his story and the interaction between him and Dr. Fraustfer that I did neglect the mention of any other crew members of the ship in this story, but I did include that portion in Part I.
The other points are also outlined better in the first part as well, and the sense of smell thing will be explained later on same with the explanation of his name, am already planning on turning this into a larger scale story and will expand and explain everything. For the purposes of this prompt I kept it short and simple and centered around the prompt.
Greatly appreciate the feedback though and glad you enjoyed it You do have very valid points and I will make sure I clarify things in the future parts ^^

Thanks Dave! I am eager to delve right into this story too and build this character more! I've already started working on some designs and what he would look like, what his new life would entail and everything, I think his story might be interesting! Definitely keeping the sci fi approach for sure
Thanks so much! Yeah it's not too often I see food pills in stories, and felt it would work perfectly in this case for the character as after a long period of time without food the stomach needs to re-adjust (something I often read and see in survival situations), and with the sci fi theme I'm going for in this story, it fit perfectly.
Ironically my inspiration came from the gum from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory lol! That scene where the girl was chewing gum and could taste and sense the tomato soup, baked potato and blueberry pie...before she turned to a blueberry LOL.
