I think I was about nine -- it reminds me of the paper dolls I used to make about then. They were all animals for some reason, and *had* to be outlined like that in black magic marker. I dunno why, that was just the rule.

What I mean by that is we had a lot of her old kid's books. In one of them was a picture of a star nosed mole carrying a Christmas Pudding (I can't recall WHY - we just rolled with it). I thought all moles looked like that for the longest time.

"Still life with apple" and yet.. I see not one single apple drawn on this page! Perhaps you should have entitled it "Man's inhumanity to man"... and I think you might have liked animals as a child..

And there is indeed an apple --- it's right between the lion's front and back legs, on the ground there. It's just a very bad drawing of an apple.

I think it was due to the fact that I watched a lot of nature TV shows and we lived in the back of beyond. I had an active fantasy life, and apparently a lot of black magic markers

I'm faving this.
It's just too adorable + nostalgia-ridden (yes, even for me!) NOT to.
The different animals + expressions...and woah, all those weirder species! TOTALLY reminds me of when I was little & lovedloveloved drawing animals before it all "meant something" (i.e: before I got online + saw what furries and such were, became part of a community etc), and geeking out over wildlife books + shows.
