the first decent drawing i make, the arms are a little bit long and i didn't finish the background, but if you don't look it much it's actually not very bad.

The only arm that's long is the one hanging - the one holding the spear actually seems just fine!
Also, i think whoever organized the defensive wall construction should be fired. You shouldn't be defending from the water - Rivers are great natural defenses! The walls should be on the opposite side - besides, it'd slow down the fishermen :3

This scene is gorgeous!
Maybe the reason the city has its back to the hills is because the wall is either incomplete or maybe a great landslide covered part of the wall! Perhaps at one stage centuries before, a wooden wall had extended to the river and formed a lower riverside district. If this city is depicted during a post-war or post-plague era, it might explain why the wall hasn't been dug out or why the lower district is not present. Maybe there is only enough man power to protect what is left in the valley.
