Justin Calder (Ref)
Was going through some of the files from my old computer and stumbled upon this guy, so I decided to draw him up a proper ref and revamp him since the original one was about....gods, 8 or 9 years old at this point..???!
I honestly can't believe how old this character is, tbh I doubt anyone remembers him at this point, but he was Michael's adopted son, wayyyyy back when Michael had his original character/design before I revamped him as well, haha.
This is literally the latest piece of art i could find of him that I did, and it's from 2013 //cringes

But anyway, yeah! this is Justin! He's a Coelacanth type merman, though he rarely takes his non-legged form since...well, he likes being able to walk. He's Michael and Calder's adoptive son, the former having taken Justin in as a babe when he was on one of his various hunts and kind of...impulsively took a baby. Adopt might be a loose term here, kidnapping is...very possibly more accurate. ...Hm.
Anyway, Michael/Calder is really the only family that Justin has known, so things worked out in the end, maybe! Justin is extremely high anxiety, probably from having a literal grim reaper and corrupted priest as a parent(s), and while he takes meds for it, it's...not uncommon to see him having several heart attacks on the daily when he finds out what insane shit his father(s) have done.
Justin has little interest in Michael's more supernatural exploits with the necromancer's guild that Jared and co run, so he primarily tends to stay by himself and tend to the church that Calder owns while his father is away. He's not exactly the pious type to be honest, but as he's grown up in a more religious environment, he's not exactly opposed to it either. ...Though that doesn't mean that he supports some of the more apocalyptic ideas his fathers seem to preach, but he's supportive of them nonetheless.
Anatomy-wise, Justin does just fine on land, despite his aquatic heritage. His eyes are rather large thanks to his Coelacanth deep-sea heritage, particularly his iris, and he's always nervous that his eyes might give him a bit of a creepy look, something that he dearly hopes to avoid. His eyes see quite well in the dark, however, he is extremely near sighted and requires glasses to see at any distance.
While in his landbound form, Justin still requires access to water regularly, as his gills need to be kept wet lest they dry out, a process that is extraordinarily painful and also prevents him from traveling to more arid climates. Justin also is unable to wear most neckwear and requires loose necked shirts, as anything too tight tends to rub on his gills rather painfully. Loosely tied scarves are fine, but turtlenecks...not so much.
Overall, personality wise Justin is quiet and mostly content to keep to himself; whether this is a foil to Michael's insane bravado, or simply because coelacanths are solitary creatures is unknown. His frame is lanky to say the least, and while he's somewhat tall, he doesn't have a whole lot of meat to back himself up with, so he's physically quite weak and tires easily. Thanks to the fact that he's naturally an aquatic being, Justin also tends to get out of breath and dehydrated extremely quickly, making hot and dry days total hell for him, the poor thing.
