I dunno, that almost looks like nickel plating to me, which some people apparently do in place of chrome now :) It seems to me like it has a slightly different tone, though that might be from the surroundings.

I've seen nickel plating. I could be wrong, but I think this was real chrome with the background reflections giving it that look.

It has a slightly different tinge, slightly warmer, doesn't it? My color vision is a little screwy...

I've always thought it was a touch darker. Isn't nickle actually used as one of the layers in chrome plating? I remember seeing something about the process on Top Gear once. I am pretty certain that copper is used, but I've forgotten the rest.

I'm not sure. I just know a friend went to get a radiator chromed and ended up with it in nickel instead. I thought the shop that did it had less hassles with environmental regs by doing it in nickel. But it's been a few years, so my memory may be faulty...
