A doodle that turned into a little story... ^.^
Cody Fox sighed as he wandered through the rooms of the big house. He was pretty sure he’d been promised there would be other cubs his age to play with at this new year’s get-together, but all he was seeing so far was a lot of grown-ups talking a lot of boring grown-up talk, and not another eight-year-old in the place. But his ears perked up and his tail waggled just a bit when he came into the dining room and saw someone he knew, sitting on the floor and playing with some toy cars – Zee-Zee, the little squirrel. He was only a toddler, but still fun to play with; Cody was about to squat down beside him and join the game, when he noticed with a smile that Zee-Zee was squirming in a familiar kind of way. Cody was a smart fox, and he knew what it meant when a potty-training little cub jiggled around like that. Time to be helpful, he thought!
“Hey, Zee!” Cody said, coming up behind the little squirrel and bending down with a friendly grin. “Need to potty?”
“Uh-huh!” Zee-Zee said, looking up to the bigger boy.
“C’mon,” said Cody, holding out a paw, “I’ll take you to the bathroom!”
Zee-Zee took Cody’s paw (holding firmly to the front of his shorts with the other) and trotted happily alongside him to the bathroom just along the hallway. “You can use the big kids’ potty, right?” Cody asked, lifting the toilet lid and ruffling Zee-Zee’s headfur in a friendly way. Zee-Zee nodded, and tugged his shorts and pull-up down a little way, but looked a little embarrassed as he put his paws on the seat (well above waist height for a toddler) and gently bounced up and down a couple of times. Cody saw the problem and giggled a little. “I’ll give you a boost!” he said, and picked the little squirrel up by the armpits.
After a little confusion and manoeuvring, they got Zee-Zee sitting on the ‘big potty’, facing the right way, underwear in no danger of getting splashed, and securely seated without looking like falling in. He gave a happy little chirp as a steady trickling sound filled the bathroom. “I’m a big kid!” he cheered. “Look, Cody! All by myself!”
“Check you out!” Cody laughed, as Zee-Zee hopped off the toilet by himself and pulled his shorts back up. “C’mon, let’s go tell your mommy and daddy! Oh, hey, don’t forget to flush! Wow, you can do everything by yourself, and you’re only two! You sure are clever!”
Zee-Zee beamed so widely at the nicely-chosen words of praise that Cody couldn’t help grinning himself as they went back towards the kitchen. They soon saw the squirrel parents, and Zee-Zee ran to tell them “I went pee-pees on the big kid potty and Cody helped!”
“He sure did, and his pull-up's all dry!” Cody nodded, as Zed picked Zee-Zee up in his arms and called him the cleverest big squirrel in the world.
“What a good boy, thank you so much for helping!” said Zena, patting Cody’s head.
Zed put the still-beaming little squirrel back on the ground and joined in the praise of Cody. “You’re always so good to the little ones! What would we ever do without you here?”
Cody beamed with pride himself, and took Zee-Zee’s paw again, feeling like a superhero. “Let’s go play with those cars, Zee! I’ll show you how to make them go fast!” It was turning out to be a fun day after all!
