Yes, I'm surprised there isn't more 3D anthro stuff around, what with the rise of the Pixar animated movie and their imitators. An awful lot of people just don't like 3D though. Think it looks 'cheap' or 'fake', and in a lot of cases they're right because far too many people use Poser like a kid's sticker book full of lingerie models. It's Uncanny Valley-riffic! That's why I make all my models from scratch.

I did 3d a few years ago too (using 3dsmax and zbrush).
I think the main reason why it's not much 3d antro, it's because to create one piece of artwork with only one character is need much time than draw it with 2d program. We have to modeling it (select and drag each vertex), then we have to texturing it, riging it, set the right lightning and the last is to render it (vray/mentalray etc).

Very true. The model in this picture took me about eight hours to create, and I didn't bother to rig it since I knew I wouldn't be animating it. I haven't actually used ANY texture maps at all; I use simple regions for the colour difference, vertex maps to control the length and attitude of fibres, and a specialised kind of normal map for the hairstyle that's auto-generated by the tools.
I tell ya though, I wish I had the money spare to splash out on ZBrush because there's some things you just can't do realistically without access to a quality normal mapping program.
