I have taken to opening bottles of bubbly outside for similar reasons, "removing the safeties" and aiming the bottle along the side of the house towards the back fence before opening. Most of the time I can get a good SpaceX-like trajectory and send the cork into the empty section behind us.
I had to give up pointing the bottle away from the house after one "launch" went over the fence and the cork bounced several times on the neighbour's roof...(wince)

Funnily enough, I once did that with a bottle of ginger ale, about 50 years ago when they still did glass quart bottles and one used a stopper after removing the cap... While the stopper only bounced off the ceiling, the stain on my grandmother's apartment ceiling was still there the last time I looked about 30 years later...
