I finished this book a couple of days ago. It's done with a dark brown (almost black) background, and a cream moon. I burned the mares of the near side of our moon into the leather, and there's a silver leather binding to connect Luna to the background. The background is two pieces of dark leather bound together with black suede.
I'm not very happy with how the burning on the moon turned out, and I might try doing a book like this one again in the future with engraving and staining instead of burning.
