Yes, definitely! I'd also been drawing for many years prior to 2006. I'd basically been doodling since I could hold a pencil, or crayon, or whatever.
But a conscious attempt in studying or learning really is what'll get you to improve rapidly in a much much shorter period.
We all have humble beginnings in art. I love seeing what everyone's work develops into.
