Thank you (Alt. Changed For Good) (Art by Scissorsrunner)
"I've heard it said,
That people come into our lives,
For a reason, bringing something we must learn,
And we are led,
To those, who'd help us most to grow,
If we let them, and then we help them in return.
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true,
But I know I'm who I am today, because I knew you.
Like a comet pulled from orbit,
As it passes a sun.
Like a stream that meets a boulder,
Halfway through the wood.
Who can say if I've been changed for the better, but...
Because I knew you,
I have been changed... For good."

Until recently, this was going to be yet another ref sheet for another character or potential fursona. However, anyone who's seen one of my most recent journals knows that I finally realized who "home" is for me, my lioness chakat, Cloudwalker. It's taken some time to get here, to a fursona I'm comfortable with, to a form that I can automatically feel myself in and see myself as, and along the way, I've made a number of friends who've not only helped me figure things out, but have also given me strength and advice, helped me open up a little and get involved in the community.
enmesarra, back when I was using my Questing Beast, Gwen, you and your bunny shaman Etch helped me open up to people, showed me there were good people in this community that are kind and compassionate, who are willing to guide a newbie like me through getting their feet wet in the furry fandom. I know, we don't get to talk that much, but you're still one of my oldest friends here in the fandom, and for that, I thank you.
laurenrivers, to be honest, I kinda envied you during our talks. You knew that your zebra was you, and that unshakeable sense of comfort in your fursona was something I wished I had. Now that I've found it in Cloudwalker, I don't know how to express the sense of rightness in it, and wonder if this is the same for you with your fursona. Your talent as a writer and world-builder never ceases to amaze as well, and I hope that I can get there some day myself ^^. Thank you for being an inspiration to keep me striving towards this point, and thank you for listening when I need to vent some ideas from my head for possible fursona forms up to this point XD.
justanotherweirdguy, one of my dearest and closest friends I've made in the fandom to date. My soul sister, whether you're Narysa, Olivia, Anastasia, or whomever you decide to be among your army of fursonas, I'm so happy I took a chance and RP'd that transformation with you that one day. What started as a fun TF into wolves evolved into a friendship that's helped me through some tough times, and words cannot express how grateful I am to you for being there for me. I'll always treasure our friendship, dear.
blackpaw_bp, thank you for making Cloudwalker possible. You reminded me of my love for taur-forms and my interest in chakats, helped me realize that it's okay to like something some other members of the fandom might not find appealing, and that what matters is that it's something I like and enjoy. You held my hand through introducing myself to the FAChakats Discord group, helped me get to know some people, encouraged me to open up and have fun, provided me with a sounding board for my story as part of the Chakona Space Universe, and most important of all, were a friend when I needed it. I'm so lucky to have you as a friend, and even moreso as a companion.
And last but not least,
furrystang, Talia, one of my first denmates as a chakat. You have been a friend, a confidant, an open ear to my troubles, and so much more. While I may have jumped the gun a little in accepting your and Blizzy's proposal to become denmates, I'm happy to say that it was a choice I wouldn't take back for the world. Your friendship and compassion have done loads to help me open up as a member of FAChakats, and as a part of this community. Your puns made me laugh, your kind gestures made me smile, and just being able to chat with you has helped me in tough times. I'm so glad that I met you.
There's so many other people I wish I could've fit on here- my other denmate
chakatblizzardmane, my buddy
apollo18x, etcetera- but since this was commissioned around the holiday rush, I had to stick with what I'd originally submitted for the ref sheet, for the sake of my budget XD. Still, I absolutely adore how this turned out, and want to thank
scissorsrunner for her incredible work in making this happen. You guys should definitely check her out if you haven't already, her art's incredible. Be sure to check out the original piece, here.
Again, thank you to everyone who I've mentioned and who I've met so far in the furry fandom for your kindness and your acceptance of a weirdo like me. It means the world to me, and I'm happy to be a part of this craziness .

I was more than happy to help you hon. Ill admit when you first talked to me seeing if maybe I can help you find your true self I wasent to sure I could really do anything. I lent you my ears and bounced ideas back at you. I suggested Chakats almost as a joke really but I saw your interest in them and went with it. Seeing your inner kat come out over the weeks was great to see. You slowly saw your true self and eventually settled on a name and I know that feeling of when it just feels right. Welcome to your new home my companion.
But really thank you so much for everything you have done for me. Including me in your story and this picture. *hugs you tight* I feel like I owe you something in return.

*Sighs nostalgically,* Yeah, those are nice memories, ones I'll keep with me for years to come. *Pulls you into a hug, purring happily,* Thank you for being there and lending me your ears, dear. Heh, it may have been on a lark, but your suggesting chakats during our talks helped reignite my interest in them and led me down the path to the 'kat I am today ^^. And for that, I am forever grateful. It feels so good to finally be "home."
And you're welcome, my Companion. I'm glad you enjoy them both, the story and the picture. *Gives you a reassuring squeeze,* You don't owe me a thing, dear. Hehe, but I will accept more hugs and your continued companionship .

I'll tell you, it was a long journey for me to get to that point. When I entered the fandom I was certain I was a 'normal guy'. Then I fell in love with a man much older than myself. Then I got a female fursuit and started to enjoy playing female characters for the next four years, and then finally, while creating many stories and things that went nowhere ultimately, I hit a realization... I had created a Firefly inspired idea which took a reboot to take off and had added a character based on an image
maxblackrabbit did of a zebra standing before a waterfall with her back to the viewer. I was immediately caught by this image, and designed a character based on that feeling. I had played ZigZag from 03-07, and knew I liked white fur and stripes. I've always liked horses since I was a child but never really understood it. When I realized there was a ready made animal that combined these it hit me like a ton of bricks. Somehow I hadn't seen it for 6 years. I gave her blue hair thanks to Illyria from Joss Whedon's Angel, and a quirky personality (which eventually faded). She went from a recurring character to a regular to the female lead very quickly, and when I decided I needed each of my characters to have their own universe and definitively decide where they belonged, rather than keep them in a single shared universe with a lot of things that truthfully didn't mesh....
Lauren was chosen as the lead for the new project, magic VS technology, which evolved after several more reboots to its current form. When I had
fox-die design Lauren's outfit which is now her canon costume, I knew it was all as it should be. From that moment I never looked back nor doubted in Lauren or that she was me, and ever since then it has been the cornerstone of my universe. She is me in who I am and who I want to be, and she's the being I would be if I could. Lauren takes all of my best qualities and magnifies them, and it has never been a question she was the right one to lead my universe and be my fursona and mascot. I know exactly what you mean when you talk about the rightness of it, but for me it took a long time to find her. Perhaps longer than your own journey.
Thank you, while sometimes I doubt myself more than perhaps I should, I from a combination of experience, instinct, and perhaps just my insistence that everything make sense, along with a deep understanding of what makes people do what they do even if it is not logical.... I just seem to have an inherent magnetism towards worlds that not only breathe but make sense even if they involve aliens and shapeshifters and magic. Even if it is fantasy, stories based on logic have a stronger hold on me because I can believe these worlds work. Every world I design, I build in levels, and with each question I answer I have to be certain this is why it happens this way and not another, and while it creates a lot of notes... It for me, makes my stories compelling and believable because I think we inherently want our worlds to make sense. Even if they don't, the nonsense has to make sense... If that makes sense. LOL. Every story I design is done in such a way that every part is essential, move one piece and it all shifts... As it should be. Worlds are dynamic, and ever changing. Nature is the finest designer we will ever know, and to that end, everything evolved for a reason, so should your worlds be.
I'm happy to listen to you anytime, hon, and while as I said elsewhere, chakats did not fit me, I am glad they fit you. I have chakat friends and am proud to have them, but this is why there are so many options. Different strokes for different folks. As long as you're happy, so am I. :)
