Hey guys! Here's my final project/character lineup for my character design class this semester. It was super crunch time/death time for this project because I had only three weeks to not only design these characters and procure a lineup, but each character also had to have a front, back, and side view model sheet. Final lineup had to be lined and colored, model sheets could be just lined. I unfortunately couldn't finish the model sheets. :/ I had to leave them as sketches; I just didn't have enough time due to not only having to balance and manage five other demanding classes, but my semi-realistic and detailed style is a lot more time consuming.
I had to speed through this and worked such long hours to get this done the day it was due that I made myself pretty sick. I can't call it my best wrk since I really had to rush and speed through this when I would have favored taking my time. Maybe some day I will revisit and finish this up and polish it better so I can use in my portfolio body of work.
I'm getting really interested in DnD and want to play, but in addition to doing these from a personal player choice standpoint, I also approached this project from a standpoint of wanting to offer DnD based commissions for private and commercial freelance projects in the future; I think it would be super cool to one day be part of the contributing illustrators for the DnD manuals/books or merchandise, to keep on helping the magic happen for one of the most widely played fantasy RPG games :)
You'll likely be seeing more of these characters in the future! I'll likely be using them for personal projects, and hope I can do some digital paintings in the future. Enjoy!

If you haven't yet, you should check out the Adventure Zone podcast. It's three bros and their dad playing DnD together. Which sounds really dumb but Griffin knows how to tell a story and it's both poignant and hilarious. <3
Also, the mimic in this pic leaves me with questions lol

I'm on episode 44 of the Zone Cast ;}
The mimic is actually an enchanted chest, made to be lightweight but is much larger on the inside! So its like a whole house with chambers inside (or like a portal to another area in there). Theres a creature inside that occupies one room, but is locked in there. however it can reach out through the bars, and is a bit of a kleptomaniac and steals lots of shiny things, sometimes rare stuff; its kind of like a pet and is defensive of the chest owner. The chest belongs to Amaunet, the tabaxi. She's an arcane trickster rouge with a fixation on historic and arcane artifacts, particularly associated with dragons or any lore that happens to fascinate her. She steals items and books to study them, sometimes resells or later returns them once she's done and loses interest. She stores stuff in there or sometimes jumps in to hide. people get dragged in there on occasion but thats ok lmao.
its enchanted to be light weight but basically massive in there; I definitely took some inspiration from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

PS - I feel your pain re: semi-realistic styles and trying to get through finals in character design and model sheets. @.@ Other people were doing these gorgeously simple designs and I'm over there like "WELL I HATE MYSELF SO LET ME GO HYPER TRADITIONAL LIKE IN THE DND BOOKS." The dude who wrote Spiderwick Chronicles did an expansion book for DnD 2nd Ed (yes, I'm old) and it has pretty much informed my entire art style ever since lol
I'm sooo sorry for not getting back to for some time but, here it is https://design.tutsplus.com/article.....ers--cms-30243 I really think it's a good they can talk and show us a numbers of ways to draw anthros.
