Cross-posted from my DA
This was started a few days ago as a way to kinda ease back into drawing after a really dry spell. Digimon is one of my biggest muses, and seeing as all I've been scribbling lately is robots (which I'm not very good at), I might as well channel it again for another piece!
I have no opinion on Adventure Tri. I'll admit that right now; while I did grow up with Adventure and have great memories of it, I just didn't get as hyped over the news as I should've. It's neat and I'm interested in the direction it's going, but tbh I don't think it's my thing. Maybe I'll hop back on when the next film comes out, but as it is, I've only seen the first part. And lemme say I love the evolution sequences.
I didn't grow up with Brave Heart playing over the digivolutions, so I was really surprised when I saw how well it matched up with the original sequences. The guitar riff right as the device shows on the screen-- it's perfect.
So I framed my way through one of my favorite Digimon's clips, Garurumon. Right at the end, they make a bunch of poses before settling on the final one they stay on for a few moments. Before that was this neat arched back roaring stance, and I thought 'that'd be a lot of fun to draw'
but fuck did I suffer through this one! I love Garurumon, but the anatomy isn't something I'm too familiar with when imposing a proper wolf over it. It feels wrong to make it look too realistic, I felt the need to keep the padless paws, oversized feet, and ridiculously big mouth. It just feels like Garurumon to me, and I wanted to make this a Garurumon that 3-year-old me would be proud of.
(It's also neat because my very first Digimon drawing was a Garurumon. Like, I think it was my first drawing ever, this blob with stripes. I'll have to find a pic because I know I have one somewhere.)
