Fascinating.
I've put a lot of thought into how to translate Minecraft into a narrative world- that is to say, how you could write about characters in it as if it was their true reality, ala Storymode (although moreso inspired by the Fallen Kingdom music videos, and a few others).
Using it as the setting for a D&D game is an interesting concept, though. Not sure how I'd do that...

Most video games at their core have the numbers for a table top dice game.
Its all about the numbers.
How much HP does a creeper have, how much damage does it do when it explodes.
How much damage does a sword inflict.. How much damage does leather armor deflect.
And so on an so forth.
Its still a work in progress, but if you like i could send you my minecraft conversions.
