This is my first ever story to write! I wanted to say that I'm proud of it, but I'm too constructive to say that ^^' But I hope some will read it, and I would gladly hear back what you think! I doubt it will be my last story, but I don't have much time, so I don't know when I will be writing another one.
I hope you will enjoy this, and please, give me some feedback if you read it! ^^

Love at First Sight
How does one even meet their true love?
The question wasn’t new to the blue fox. For a long time, he had been thinking this way, as he walked down the streets, checking out the other guys around him. He had been walking down the streets quite a lot recently, desperately looking for that one special guy you just fall in love with the first time you see him.
Why am I even so desperate? I mean, I still have plenty of time to find one, right? Sky had just turned 20. He wasn’t even that old. Far from, actually! But seeing all his friends find the love of their lives made him want to achieve the same. That’s why he walked down the streets every now and then - hoping to spot someone interesting. There had been some, who seemed cute enough. A tall, black wolf with a few blue markings walked past him once. Would go well with my mostly blue fur, he thought.
As days turned into weeks, he slowly started to lose his hope. But something kept him determined to walk down the streets, looking for him. And today was perfect for checking out guys! The sun was shining on this beautiful day of July, and many people were out enjoying the nice weather. The weather has always had some kind of influence on Sky’s mood. On a grey and rainy day of autumn, all he could do was stay inside in his bed and despise everything. Today, he was happy and joyful and on the lookout for that one special guy!
Today doesn’t seem to be the day either, Sky sighed, about to head back home. His ears hung low and his head was droopy as well. But that all changed in an instant when he spotted him. A few metres away from him, a tall, orange fox with grey stomach and black outlines walked. He was wearing slim fit jeans and an open shirt, displaying his well-trimmed muscles, which was probably why Sky spotted him so quickly. The orange fox’ smile was very attractive to look at - a slight smirk, and full of confidence. I’ve got to talk to him!
Without knowing, Sky had been standing still since his eyes focused on the handsome fox. He was so enchanted by the stranger that he forgot to move. And it wasn’t difficult to see that his eyes were following the fox. When Sky realised that he hadn’t moved an inch since he saw him, he snapped out of his thoughts and began moving again, paranoid if the guy noticed his staring. It didn’t seem like it, and he quickly lost sight of the orange fella again.
How do people interact with someone they don’t even know? Sky was walking in his own thoughts again, as he headed back home. He lived by himself in a small apartment inside of town, so it didn’t take long for him to get back home. The room was dark when he entered his home. He forgot to pull back the curtains before he left, but he didn’t even bother to turn on the lights. It was late and all he could think of was the smile of the fox, so he decided to go straight to bed. I hope I will see him again, was his last thought before he fell asleep.
A few days later, Sky went to his favourite café in town, where he also often went to check out the guys. Though many who went there were of the older type, with grey fur growing around the muzzle already. Sitting with his cup of tea, he looked at the other guys at the café, not really interested in any of them. He chit-chatted with the guy behind the desk to keep him entertained, but he was considering leaving soon. That was before the orange fox stepped inside the café. Sky’s ears peaked back up, pointed towards the stranger, while Sky tried his best to look away, being too embarrassed to seek eye contact. The fox settled himself with what seemed to be coffee, a couple of tables away. Now Sky could check out his not so secret crush, without him finding out. Or, at least that’s what he thought. He suddenly turned to look Sky directly in his eyes and emitting a wide smirk at him.
Sky quickly turned away, lowering his very flushed ears. He sipped his tea slowly, when an arm suddenly wrapped itself around him and he heard a soft murmur in his ear. “I saw you checking me out”, said the voice. Sky turned around and stared directly into the other guy’s deep blue eyes. “You maybe wanted my attention?” the orange fox said, still smirking.
Sky was too embarrassed to answer, his cheeks completely red from blushing, but the other fox continued: “Don’t be shy, little fella. Do you think I wear open shirts and not want others’ attention?” The orange stranger chuckled briefly. “It’s nearly impossible to not check out a handsome guy like you”, Sky said finally, looking down. That made the other fox laugh and stroke Sky’s cheek, making Sky even more flustered. “You’re sweet. My name is Amber. Nice to meet you, uhhm…” “Sky”, he finished, looking back up again and trying to calm himself down. “Sorry for staring at you like that. I didn’t mean to-” Sky said, but was interrupted by Amber. “It’s okay, silly. As I said, I like getting attention from cute critters like you”, he said in a low voice, almost flirty.
Amber sat down next to Sky and asked the shepherd behind the desk for another cup of coffee. He turned towards the blue fox, who was eagerly checking him out. But Sky stopped in an instant when he felt Amber’s eyes staring back at him. Sky cleared his throat and asked: “So. What brings you here?” “Not anything particular”, the fox smirked. “I often go to this café just to enjoy my time alone. The atmosphere is very cosy here. What about you?” Before even thinking about what to answer, Sky felt his ears start to flush. I can’t say that I went here just to stare at guys, can I? “Uhhm… I-I needed to go outside, so I thought this could be a nice place to go”, he lied. Leaning in closer, Amber murmured something in Sky’s ear: ”Are you sure you didn’t come here, hoping to meet some good-looking guys?” That made Sky’s cheeks turn completely red again, and Amber clearly noticed. “Aww, you’re a sweet one. I don’t judge you”, Amber said to him
It felt like time went by faster than the speed of light. The two foxes sat at the café for an extra 2 hours, just talking and getting to know each other, and it never got awkward. They clicked very well. As time passed by, Sky begun liking the good-looking fox more and more, which also bothered him. Amber was a peculiar kind. He was difficult to read, and Sky had no idea if he had an interest in him or not.
“Have you actually had a relationship before?”, Sky asked. “I had one once, but it’s a long time ago, and it didn’t last long. It was with this black wolf. Very sweet, but we didn’t match well as time went by”. He sat a little restlessly on his chair as he continued on. “But it’s all good. I’m free to do what I want, now that I’m single again,” he said, exposing his teeth in a smile. “I actually thought you had someone waiting at home”, Sky said in a surprised voice. Amber chuckled. “Nah, I’m very much single.” There was something odd about his reply, which Sky couldn’t yet figure out, but he let it pass for now.
“So. What do you say to get dinner together tonight?”, Amber suddenly asked. Sky’s ears perked at the question, not answering right away. How should I answer? Sky knew for sure that he wanted to go. Heck, he would love to! But he worried that his desperation would make the other fox regret his own question, so Sky answered with: “I’d love to”. “Great!”, Amber exclaimed. His tail was wagging rapidly behind him. “Let’s meet at the Italian restaurant at 7. Deal?” “Sounds good to me”, Sky replied, his own tail wagging as well now. The foxes finished their drinks, said good bye, and went home to themselves, preparing for the dinner.
As time passed on, the two foxes grew closer and closer, hanging out more and more often. They had a blast when hanging out, and it was always pleasant for both of them. But the big amount spent with the orange fox has made Sky’s feelings for him grow increasingly fast. He loved everything about him! But the thing that kept him from letting Amber know about his feeling, was the fear of being rejected. To Sky, the fox didn’t seem fairly interested in a relationship with him. To be honest, he was a peculiar one. Hard to read. But it didn’t stop him from spending time with him.
Amber had invited Sky out for dinner again. It was always lovely to eat with the orange fella. He had good taste, and knew many great places to grab dinner at. When they showed up at the restaurant, they greeted each other with a long hug - as they always did. Amber even nibbled Sky’s ear softly. He knew that the smaller fox loved that. “Thanks for asking me out for dinner again”, Sky said smilingly. “No problem, sweetie”, Amber answered back, as they went towards their table.
They ordered their food and chit-chatted while they waited. The flame from a small candle on the table flickered slightly between them as they spoke. Conversations came very fluently for them, making their time together more pleasant. While waiting for the food, they talked about cooking, and their past experiences with it.
“I am actually a pretty decent cook, if I should say so myself”, Sky said as he sipped water from his glass. Amber smirked and replied: “Oh, really? Why don’t you cook me some dinner sometime, while I stand by your side to check that you are not cheating?” Sky’s mind took over, imagining the taller fox holding him close in the kitchen, making him blush deeply. He is being flirty again, he thought. Trying to hide his blushing cheeks, he looked away from the fox. “B-but there’s no need to stand close to me while cooking.” “But you would like it, wouldn’t you?”, he said and licked his lips, his eyes locked on the blushing blue fox. It wasn’t new for Amber to tease Sky like that. It was happening more frequently than before.
After they had eaten, they said good bye and went back home to themselves. Amber was happy, but also exhausted. It had been a long day for him, but also an enjoyable one. He really enjoyed spending time with the blue fox. It’s weird, Amber thought to himself. I met this guy by coincidence, and now I hang out with him almost daily. Lying in bed, he couldn’t stop thinking about Sky’s shy smile, and his blushy cheeks. Amber had fallen in love with Sky.
As something new, Sky asked Amber over to his place for a cosy evening, which Amber of course accepted. He liked Sky’s apartment. It wasn’t the biggest, but it was perfect for a nice evening for them two. “Do you want to watch a movie?” Sky sat on the couch with the remote in his paw, as if he knew what the fox would answer. “If it means I get to sit next to you, it’s fine with me”. He smirked, but a slight blush was noticeable as well. With a tilted head, Sky looked at Amber, but shrugged and turned on the TV.
Something feels different, Sky thought to himself while they watched their second movie. For starters, they had never sat this close before. Amber used to take the spot on the other end, but tonight, he almost leaned up against Sky! It felt… good. But despite this nice feeling, Sky was still too shy to open up even further for his companion. The thought of rejection - or even worse, abandonment, controlled his feelings too much. It wasn’t any easier for Amber either. Being the strong and masculine guy that he was, it didn’t quite fit opening up emotionally.
The living room was dark. All lights were out, and only the TV in front of the two foxes gave away some light. They kept watching their movies, mostly in silence. Once in a while, they commented on the current scene and laughed afterwards. At some point, Sky caught himself falling asleep while leaning against his companion, making him blush heavily. “Oh, I-I’m sorry, Amber”, he stuttered, trying not to make too much eye contact. “Hey’ it’s okay sweetie. You look cute when you are asleep”, amber answered back, also blushing slightly. Sky noticed Amber’s blushing cheeks. That gave him the courage to finally take the next step and ask Amber how he truly feels.
“It’s weird how we got to know each other”, Sky said, staring out in the blue. “Yeah, it is”. Amber also didn’t look at him. “I never imagined that I would start liking you as much as I do”. Sky’s ears were slightly lowered in embarrassment. This was awkward, but Sky figured it would be now or never. “You aren’t that bad either”, Amber answered back coldly. It was awkward for him, talking about feelings like this. “Come on, don’t be so distant, Amber”. Amber sighed and spoke: “Okay, I like you… A lot.” His normally black ears had gotten some red to it. He was blushing heavily, and his heart beat like a drum as well. “I also never imagined I would fall in love with someone I ran into on a café, but after all the time we have spent together, I know that my feelings for you are true”, Amber said again. He was almost bent over himself, not able to face Sky in this state. The sight made Sky smile at him. Sky supported Amber’s head up to look him in the eyes. “No need to be embarrassed, Amber. You don’t need to act tough all the time for my sake”.
Amber brightened up and gave Sky’s nose a short lick. “I always wanted to do that. It is hard resisting such a cutie like you”, he said with a shy smile. Sky’s cheeks turned red, not knowing what he should do. After a little hesitation, he leaned forward to kiss the orange fox, making them both blush completely. Sky was about to remove his lips from Amber’s, when Amber pulled him back again to kiss Sky again. The TV still ran in the background, but the only thing the two foxes could hear, were each other’s heartbeats. Sky moved himself to sit on top of Amber’s lap, their lips never separating. Amber made use of this to rub Sky’s narrow sides, murring softly in Sky’s muzzle. In reply, Sky did the same back to Amber’s more muscular stomach. After nearly two minutes of kissing, Sky leaned away from Amber’s muzzle to speak: “I love you, Amber”. He smiled shyly. “I never thought I would be able to say this, but I love you too, Sky”. They both smiled at each other, and leaned over to brush noses. The eye contact was almost intimate, and for the first time, there was a spark in their eyes.
A yawn escaped Amber’s muzzle, quickly followed by a yawn from Sky’s. “Maybe we should move to bed?”, Amber asked, nuzzling Sky’s cheek as he awaited the answer. Sky nodded and stood up. Amber did the same, and they hugged each other tightly, before walking towards Sky’s bedroom. After undressing, they climbed into bed, facing each other. They didn’t say anything, but their smiles were enough to tell that they were both very happy. Despite the rather big bed, Sky moved closer to Amber, who wrapped his paws around him to pull the little fox even closer. Amber kissed the blue fox gently and rubbed behind his ear. “Sleep well, Sky. Thank you for tonight”. They kissed one last time, and fell asleep.
That evening, they both found out they were meant for each other.
I hope you will enjoy this, and please, give me some feedback if you read it! ^^
