Audience participation alert below the line
I sketched this up a few days ago after reflecting on something I thought up regarding my characters. Since they dress in a manner akin to folks you might see in your everyday travels, their outfits don't approach a state of complexity that offers an artistic challenge (beyond making them look recognizable to the average person). This gave rise to the observation that if real people dressed like characters in a Japanese RPG or steampunk fantasy, I'd have a whole lot of practice drawing needlessly complicated outfits :)
So, building on Roland's dilemma in "Cool or Cliche?, I sketched him in the goggles, plus a set of big DJ-style headphones, thus bringing him within two TV Tropes*:
1: Goggles Do Nothing, and
2: Headphones Equal Isolation
Oddly enough, I'm now unsure if these particular goggles equate to a cliche', since they're not the typical aviator or welding styles drawn on a multitude of furry characters--instead, I saw this exact style (down to the vents next to the lenses) on a sizable number of RL people while seated in the artist's alley at Anthrocon this year.
Audience Participation Part:
In trying to put him in a complicated-looking outfit, I only got as far as his head. Everything else is more or less ho-hum (although grounded in reality (yes, even the shoes)). Since I'm involved in at least a couple of other projects before I can devote any attention to inking/coloring this, I thought I'd post the pencils and entertain suggestions from watchers and passers-by for stuff to add to the drawing before finalizing it.
If you know anyone who draws a lot of complicated outfits, you can point them here to add their input. References/links to photos/drawings are ideal. I can update and rescan/update this pic if need be. The end result should justify the expression on his face, which isn't being a badass, but expressing "I hate you for drawing me like this". This pic will go to scraps once an inked and/or color pic comes of it.
*(be careful reading TV Tropes. It will suck away all your free time if you let it :D )

I do a lot of goth/ punk wear, yes the kind of stuff you can buy at Hot Topic that isn't really goth and is too fricking expensive, but that is a good thing to look into.
Basically anything with a lot of chains, D rings, straps and baggy clothes.

I also did a clothing type with baggy camo print pants that are similar to Japanese traditional pants (see kimono pic below), but with a strappy top that came together in multiple random triangles across the body for a fanfiction I wrote.
There are also Japanese kimonos to use too, They can very easily be multilayered and complicated in design.

That first group has some possibilities (except that third link O_o), but it'd have to be a whole separate pic :D
The first pencils for this pic included a caption "I Hate You", as in 'for drawing me like this', but I'm sure he'd be guzzling the hateorade if I did him up in goth/punk wear :D

I couldn't find a good pic of a strappy vest that I was thinking about because I couldn't remember the name of it. Just posted a link to something along those same lines. The problem with looking for anything with the word bondage in it is you get goth links and BDSM links.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1462344/ Though this badge Farelle made me has something similar to what I was thinking about. I could have probably just used Hot Topic's website to find it, but I have a bit of a problem with them being owned by Abercrombie and Fitch.
