Sin's magical affinity is in light and shadow spells. He can't cast elemental magic as he has little to no aptitude for it. He can see in the dark perfectly, so he can cast Darkness. He also can summon little wisp lights, and finally shadow trap to secure his targets. All plenty useful spells forkidnapping people tactical combat.
