"My father?" Venti asked, staring at the jackal sitting at the table.
Samuel nodded, gesturing to the chair on the other side of the round table. "Why don't you sit down, son. You look a bit unsteady." He held up his mug. "Can I order you a drink?"
Venti was, admittedly, starting to feel a bit dizzy. His father, here? His birth father? He mentioned a magazine cover, and from the look of him he was obviously into weightlifting. He glanced at Samuel's arms, trying to measure their size with his eyes. They looked bigger than his own, but there was something about them which made him wonder if this other jackal took steroids to get that big.
"Reginald?"
Venti blinked, his thoughts interrupted. "Huh? Oh, yeah. A drink. I'll have a Doctor Thunder if they got it."
The waitress took Venti's order, and he was inwardly startled to see her. When had she shown up? Had he been that out of it? "You saw me in the magazine," Venti said, setting down his gym bag next to him.
Samuel nodded. "Do you prefer Venti?"
Was he trying to avoid the subject, or was it all in Venti's head? "Yes, please."
"You're probably wondering--"
"I don't mean to interrupt, sir, but...I need proof that you're my biological father." He refused to call this man his real father. His real father lived four hours away by car, an hour or so by plane. "I'll give you there's a strong resemblance, what with the mohawk, but..."
Samuel nodded, looking down at his mug for a moment. "Fair enough." When the waitress returned with Venti's soda, he met Venti's gaze. "You were born in Alabama at Decatur General Hospital on March 22nd, 1974. The time was nine thirty-five in the morning. You weighed in at exactly twenty pounds." A smile appeared on his muzzle. "Is that enough?"
Venti had looked at his own birth certificate over the years to know everything this man had said, without even a moment's hesitation, was correct. "That's a very good memory, sir."
His biological father was here.
But why did it take thirty-five years for him to appear right now?
