Ryan Malone and Godfrey Zindendel are Teammates! [FBA]
"Yo, it's fine man. Ref made a bad call. Keep it cool though 'cause we need you out there man. You gotta lead these dudes and it'll work out in the end. Cool?"
The FBA offseason just happened a little while ago (as you noticed by the new Rodger Umaechi art) and I felt incredibly strongly compelled to draw my kangaroo character Ryan Malone, whom I'd never actually drawn before.
You see, Ryan is a 4-time champion and future Hall of Famer winding down his playing career. When the FBA was IRL created back in 2009, Malone was already a 2 time champion (2004, 2008) and bonafide superstar in his prime. A whole 9 years later and he's still great, but he's reluctantly declining in skill as he ages.
That's why Malone, who has played his entire 14 year career with the Dakota Bikers, has found himself a new home this summer. When the Bikers removed his starting role and his captaincy in the offseason, it signaled a transition away from the player who was the face of the franchise since he entered the league. The roo has always been stubborn, and he wasn't ready to ride into the sunset just yet.
So he rode the last minute contract offer by the Wildcards to the bright lights of Las Vegas!
Since I don't know how long they'll play together, I wanted to draw him with my other character who rarely gets drawn, Godfrey Zindendel. He's a former star who once carried his own team, helping his Santa Fe Whips win a championship one year before Malone did it for a second time in 2008. So the goat knows a thing or two about the toll of Father Time on an All-Star.
As former opponents, now teammates, they have a lot in common. And I'm sure they have a lot of stories to share. ;)

Well, Doug does like intimidating his opponents on the court and he's never lost his gift of smack talk. He didn't have the nickname "Six Foot Nine Of Arrogant Asshole" for nothing (though he really mellowed out in his first year). And boy did he screw with Kevin Malka a few years ago ( http://mrinitialman.com/TestSite/wr.....ounder_dramson )
Hehe, thanks! Yeah the goat is a little underappreciated, and I can't believe it took me this long to draw Ryan! It had to be post-Bikers of course (now I have to go back and draw him in his prime).
And you're right, he's filled out his armsleeve quite nicely! Even one for his wife. ;)
