Anytime I do an art trade involving a character I've not drawn before, I do a test headshot to serve as a model for the actual trade pic, and to iron out any issues with my rendition of the character. In this case, the subject is  kaejae's fursona, of which the subject matter and pose of the actual pic are already defined. Now I also have a basis for my version of the character itself :)
