Once upon a time, after the world was devastated by the great Martian war and the Invaders all died off, a great depression descended upon society. The loss of life, the destruction, the red plague and other such miseries brought the world down into a serious socioeconomic crisis. However, even with the dire hopelessness of the situation, some refused to acknowledge said fact.
Three friends Kurt, Wilhelm and Hans in Tomania, for example, went through thick and thin to achieve their goal. They managed to establish a little business of their own, backed by a major oil company. A humble gas station on a busy road. For a time, all was good.
Then, Adenoid Hynkel and his Nazi part took power. All men fit to serve were drafted into the Wehrmacht. The Gas station Trio were no exception. Rigorous training and testing followed. Each proved the excel in one branch of the military, a fact that pleased their superiors, but also separated the three friends.
Kurt was assigned to the air force, the Eisen Falken brigade. Specialized troops with jet packs who were far more maneuverable and faster then normal fighter planes (even the long range ones).
Wilhelm was assigned to the Vril Trupen. Secret soldier project that used the recently discovered and still experimental all-permitting fluid, the Vril.
Hans's observation and coolness in stressful situations, lent him a position in the Panzer corps, where he piloted one of the dreaded Tiger Spaziergängeren. Walking tanks based on the Martian war machines left after the invasion.
The three were sent off to a war they never wanted. The fought and bled "for the Fatherland", seeing each other less and less every day. All the while, the little gas station was left derelict to be ravaged time and neglect. As the tiny structure slowly gave way to ruin, so did the hopes and dreams of the three friends, trying to make it in a harsh, unforgiving world.

Will. Will is the key. The Vril can only be controlled through will. And Wilhelm has shown he has it in spades. Of the three friends he is the leader of sorts. He pulled them through all the hardships. It's his determination and will that ultimately brought them success. (In other words, he is the main character. He has all those characteristics XD)
