angsty wangsty backstory:

Courtiers used fire to torture Vernang as attempt to convert them to nightmare. Vernang managed to escape but they were left with pretty bad damage on other side of their body. As somewhat self conscious and crafty mesmer, Vernang simply started to use illusion magic to hide the damaged parts. After a year or two of hiding, they became more comfortable with their appearance and stopped using illusions.
