Both are lovely, if a bit unsettling. Klaus Nomi always had such a weird alien performance that was both mesmerizing, but off putting. And this image is both off-putting and sad, given it comes off as someone who is lost, but didn't realize someone is looking for them, and hat person died never knowing someone was out there trying to help.
Sorry for being so dark and hopeless... it seems that it is in my nature... and it seems that time doesn't settle the issue.
Believe me or not, I have just discovered Klaus Nomi interpretation of Purcell's Cold Song this afternoon!
I was looking for different version of this baroque masterpiece. I was also trying to get inspiration for drawing a Christmas card... ^^
At the end, Klaus Nomi performance, Kenneth Grahame's characters and my dark thoughts led to this result...
PS: I am wondering about the possibility of drawing a darker version of The Wind in the Willows, more in tune with present time.

Désolé de m'enfoncer un peu plus dans les abysses... Pour ceux qui connaisse le roman de Kenneth Grahame, Taupe est retrouvé par son ami rat et sont tous deux sauvés par Blaireau qui les hébergent une partie de l'Hiver. Maintenant, mon interprétation est un brin plus sombre et la musique de Purcell y est sûrement pour quelque chose. De plus, en cherchant différentes interprétations de cette œuvre, je suis tombée sur celle, exceptionnellement troublante, de Klaus Nomi, qui était alors séropositif et tenait difficilement debout lors de ce concert. Il décédera quelques mois plus tard en août 1983.
Pour en revenir à ce dessin, j'ai remarqué qu'on représentait toujours la dépression et la solitude en se centrant sur le sujet et le représentant entouré par un environnement hostile mais sans jamais aller au delà : à savoir qu'il y d'autres personnes autours, qui sont prêtes à aider... malgré leur incapacité, le plus souvent, à trouver une solution. Cela apporte un peu plus de nuance au propos et, en fonction de l'état d'esprit de la personne découvrant ce dessin, on pourrait y voire un message d'espoir où bien un constat cruel et fataliste.

It reminds me that when I was student, I was doing some hiking and then I learned that carrying a map and a compass could be useful, yet a whistle and a space blanket are vital: when you are lost and wounded, the most efficient way to survive is to protect yourself in the blanket and use your whistle to call for help...
