If the Lion is the King of the Animals, and the Eagle is the King of the Skies, then what does that make the Gryphon?
If a cat can look at a king, and an eagle can look into the sun, what can a griffin see?
If the lion is the supreme hunter of the land, and the eagle of the sky, then what domain does the gryphon rule?
Whatever the answers, I think it is safe to say: a griffin is not a creature to cross.Another pertinent question: just how the heck do you spell it? It seems everyone has their own version of the word. It's like being back in the eighteenth century!
But all that aside: enjoy the shiny gryphon. I tried a slight variant on the traditional griff here, giving it the front legs of a lion and a combined feline/avian tail.
Watercolors on hotpress watercolor paper.
Enjoy.

I think this needs a Wikipedia article.
Truly a royal animal.
Thanks!
I've been wondering the same thing too! I've seen three different ways to spell it: gryphon, griffin and the third one I've forgotten. :P Luckily gryphons have only one name in my mother tongue. :D Yay for that!
I think Griffon was the third option I mentioned… eh… so many choices! *throws up paws*
