A storm rages on with sheets of heavy rain as Sorrel, a young California scrub jay (Aphelocoma californica) cries out in her ear-rattling warrior-like voice, bounding through the sky with her powerful blue wings. The weather is wet and cold now that winter has arrived, and the valley will be smothered with thick tule fog that comes around during this season. It never ever snows here, but the rapid change from 90 to 50 degrees never fails to disturb and frustrate some of the creatures, even when their kind has completely adapted.
