Not really. You can do the old post the orginal to yourself and not open the mail, but I have my art on other sites with my username and logo etc. Plus I can produce all the original works as proof when needed as all are done traditionally with no computer enhancements or manipulations. But if you want to be very safe unfortunately you do have to pay for it through a legitimate copyright office.
