One of my dear kitties (Odie) passed away recently after a year long battle with horrible debilitating disease. I miss him much and know he can't be replaced but I had not gotten a new kitty for quite a while so I resolved to adopt one from one of the animal shelters in the area after he passed.
So after a couple weeks, I contacted a shelter and inquired and they had many to choose from. So I headed there after work and picked out one instantly, the tortie. But I just couldn't bear to get just the one and picked out a companion, the black as I'm a black cat kind of guy, (And so glad I did!). Then I thought to ask about a dog....
My big fluffy wolf dog passed away at the age of 13 (had him since he was a pup) about 5 years and I had never found anything I felt could replace him. They told me they had just gotten in a Great Pyrenees mix pup so I called my son and he came over and instantly said he wanted him. But sadly, the very next day, the shelter called and said the owners had come forward and we had to return him. But they also told us that they were getting in a litter in a couple weeks after they were weened and the mother was a pure Great Pyrenees, and wee would get first pick. So when we went in to look at them, (3), 2 were off color and didn't show some of the normal Pyrenees traits but the third could have passed as a pure bred Pyrenees, extra dew claws (a normal trait) and all. So we got him! Shelter says he'll probably weigh 125 to 150 pounds! Yay! Big and oh so Soft and FLUFFY!!
We named Him TOR, shortened from tornado as he is a whirling white vortex of random destruction. He is currently outside chasing away all the deer, coyotes, coon, and other critters that routinely come onto the property. (Gets along well with the cats though).
And I guess you're wondering about the car taking a nap in the nice grassy ditch. Well, we got home from the shelter with Tor, dropped him off, then jumped back in the car to go to the store to buy him a collar and a few other things. Well, about a third of a mile up the gravel road, we topped the hill and started to go down. Steering then locked up, (a fluke thing), and going downhill on grave, the car didn't want to stop fast or steer, so slowly it drifted into the ditch. Went into the ditch with pretty much no forward momentum and then slid sideways to the bottom (having picked the only place within a half mile that had a culvert and was very steep). Then it very slowly and gently tipped over. We drove it to relatives place for Thanksgiving today after pounding out the dinted roof and replacing the windshield last week.
Tor is now 4 months old and as big or bigger than a normal hunting dog but still nooks like a puppy. Yeah, gonna be huge...and fluffy... and so cuddly. :D

WOW.....
Well YAY for you adopting your new companions from the shelter, that was a great thing to do for them....good on you!
Not so YAY with your car going belly up on your drive home, but thankfully no one was hurt and the damage minor.
Please keep posting pictures of Tor, I want to watch him grow into the giant he looks like he will be. G>P>'s are such sweet dogs.

Thank you for adopting, so many animals need homes.... Im sorry you lost your kitty, but in total you saved 7 lives those days!! (2 cats u adopted, opened space for 2 more cats, puppy that was claimed, your puppy and the space you opened for them!)
Also, ouch car ;o; glad you guys were ok and the car was still drivable. That could have been far worse.

yay for new pack members. :) they look pretty lively!
but, uh, steering locked up? as in, power steering failed, or did it actively lock up? in the latter case I wouldn't drive one meter with it anymore until it's fixed!
but good to hear noone was harmed. could have been way worse.
"Do you always park your car like that?"
"Well, I'm from australia."

The best, best memorial for a deceased pet, is to adopt one who may not have a future. You've collected Karma for the rest of your life with these three! Looks like the kitties have had their vetting and blood tests done.
I adopted my Cami to take the berth of my second Australian Cattle Dog, knowing my Australian Kelpie wasn't long for this earth, either. She probably would have adored the ACD (they're more alike than I could ask).
I need to call the insurance company and report the young doe I hit Monday. She didn't suffer long; but she was the first one I killed in forty years of driving. I hit another one back in '84, but he ran off and coursed down a river.
