Raised under the infamous Gool Guild as Araris, he was brought up to be the next Guild Master after his parents. He was to inherit the guild and Golhuim, the guild’s demon passed down through the family via sigils. Being a very talented sorcerer, he was very compatible with Golhuim, much moreso than his mother. She grew bitter that he would rise to power too quickly, desiring a much longer reign over the guild. After previously sealing Golhuim in a book in order to reduce the power her own husband had with Golhuim, she became insecure and decided to murder Araris and get rid of Golhuim, dumping them both in the Narfolk ocean to permanently secure her place as Guild Master
After washing ashore the beach of Cape Lewes, Araris was adopted by a human fisherman and re-named Charlie. He suffered amnesia, unable to remember his life before being thrown overboard. His adoptive father was very poor and had to go on long fishing trips often, so Charlie would be left alone in subpar conditions with very little money for weeks at a time. Over time, he slowly regains some memories and seeks magical books and information, but rarely comes across any. Eventually he comes across Golhuim, who had been found and traded off in Cape Lewes. At this point, Charlie regained his memories and sought to reclaim his place in the guild, resolving to murder his mother. Golhuim agrees to assist him, in return Charlie will find a way to remove Golhuim from the book. Under Golhuim’s influence, he learns how to steal and pickpocket to survive, developing a more angry and cynical view on life.
