Read a bit about foo lions; learned some stuff, such as:

Foo lions are always meant to come in pairs, a male and a female. The male rests his paw on a decorative orb that represents the world, symbolizing power and strength, and protecting the outside. The female rests her paw on a cub, symbolizing nurture and compassion, and protecting the inside. There are some variations (sometimes both have orbs, sometimes the female has a closed mouth while the male has an open mouth, etc.) but generally the pair is meant to complement each other, like yin and yang.

...of course, if I'd read a bit more carefully BEFORE starting the drawing, I may have realized that traditionally the male is supposed by be on the right and the female on the left, opposite of how I have it here...but by the time I learned that it was too late to change it (and I couldn't just flip the image because it would've messed up Koi's scars/ear notches and muzzle marking) so...whoops, guess I done goofed on that. ^^"
