Today I shall present to you a rendition of one of my few frequent visitors, Mjrn!
Mjrn is a very shy Viera, though not as shy as Nera. She visits me far less often than Nera or Rena do, though I still consider her welcoming.
Of the three, she is the most curious about the outside world. While Nera and Rena ask their questions by leading conversation in subtle ways to reach the topics they desire, Mjrn is far more direct. The first time she visited she bombarded me with a MASSIVE quantity of questions about everything from food to airships to the other races on the outside. I admit, that while she offers little in the way of information about her own people, her hunger for knowledge of the outside is immensely endearing.
I do find it unfortunate that despite her desire to know more about the outside, she seems ashamed of such inquiries. She will often have brief bouts of excitement where the questions will come relentlessly, but then will suddenly stop herself in embarrassment and all but halt conversation entirely!
I asked Rena and Nera about this and Nera revealed that she is the sister of Elder Jote! Immediately I understood. While the duty to wood and village is indeed strong for all Viera, the temptation of the unknown can be alluring. However, when family muddles the issue as well, the heart becomes torn.
While I would never vocalize as much, my sympathy for Mjrn is immense, for she is doomed to have regrets no matter what path she may choose.
After I learned this I attempted to strengthen our friendship, prying more about her to gain a familiarity. Initially Mjrn was a bit apprehensive, but in time I could tell that she was more at ease when the conversation flowed evenly in both ways.
One one meeting with Mjrn I asked about her ornate headdress. I noticed how all the Viera craft armor and clothing of fantastic quality. Focused craftsmanship and eye for detail that could rival that of the most prominent Archadian blacksmiths! Not only was the formation of such armaments incredible, I was also at a loss for how the necessary materials could be acquired within such a densely forested region of Ivalice!
Mjrn explained that many of the Viera dabbled in the working of metal, cloth, leather, woodcarving, etc. While not an appointed duty such as wood warder or salve maker, most Viera would try to learn the crafts, though most finished pieces the villagers wore were formed by only a few highly skilled Viera. She bashfully admitted that she was not the most proficient and that her headdress was formed for her as a gift from her sister. When I assumed that she meant Jote, she grew somber and corrected me, saying it was a third sister I had not known about. I did not wish to upset her and so did not push the matter further.
Instead, I asked about how the necessary materials were obtained. Animal skin and even silk I could understand, as the fauna of Golmore are rich and extensive beyond current knowledge, but I had no clue as to how the metal was acquired. I at first thought that perhaps it was some unknown species of golem lurking on the forest floor, but Mjrn laughed and said that it was far less exciting.
The salve makers and the village elders would heed the word of the wood and follow her guidance. Through this, the wood itself would reveal to them the location of metallic deposits brought to the surface by its infinite root system. Further, the occasional crashed airship or lost armor would be scavenged by wood warders and a ramshackle collection of various metals and alloys would be amassed. Not enough to form an entire legion of armors and weapons, but more than enough to equip the villagers. She added that the coiling, entwined nature of the Viera armor and jewelry was supposed to reflect the wood itself and its all encompassing shelter. “A piece of her they could carry with them” she said.
The Viera’s reverence for the wood as a deity is far greater than I had initially thought, and once more makes poor Mjrn’s situation all the more tragic.

Meet Mjrn!
Fran and Jote’s youngest sister, and a Viera torn between her duty to the wood and her desire to follow in her middle sister’s footsteps and see the world.
Shy and easily embarrassed, Mjrn is not the most outgoing, but behind her reserved nature is a care and compassion for all things that is unmatched.
However, her unquenchable curiosity for the outside can prove unbearable, and has gotten her into trouble more than once!

While Fran is my biggest crush of the three sisters, I always thought Mjrn was a super cutie :P
