Time to End This
So I've been sorely neglecting my ambition to draw SH art lately, and while I was completing my cousin's wedding card (the thing that's been preventing me from getting started on commissions), I got burnt out of drawing birds and decided to give myself a break and attempt to draw James Sunderland's only badass moment in the entire game.
Seriously, I love the character to death but for most of the game he's pretty much just like "Derp".
But he gets ONE Crowning Moment of Awesome, and that moment is when he realizes why Pyramid Head exists, and slowly gets up from his knees and turns around to confront him, saying "It's time to end this."
JAMES, YOU ARE FORGIVEN FOR YOUR DERPY WAYS FOR THAT.
Anyway. There you go. A rare piece of fanart from me. I need to start trying to draw Heather, as she's actually my favorite Silent Hill protagonist.
James, Silent Hill, and everything about it are © Konami.

Eh, with the new ones, your mileage may vary. 4 was pretty good, it stayed true to canon, was original, and had some nice connections to the old games.
Origins and Homecoming... had some great concept work and creative ideas but in the end wound up being wasted potential (which is even worse than if they'd completely bombed it). They tried too hard to be repeats of SH2. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE.

I have SL4 actually and thought it was pretty good. Just as Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation said about Silent Hill Origins and Homecoming's Western developers "The developers couldn't have missed the point more if they fired in the wrong direction and the point was in another country all together."
That's a pretty good sum-up.
As I described in a comment below, the teams had their hearts in the right places, and had more than enough concepts that COULD have worked, but in the end what they did is took what they thought were all the 'classic' ingredients of Silent Hill (insane protagonists, Pyramid Head, women issues, etc), threw them all into a pot, and just sat there waiting for it to turn awesome.
But forgot that the reason those elements made the first games awesome was because they were there for substance, not style.

Yeah like how the large breasted nurses were there representing the main character's sexual frustrations in 2, but the folks who made the movie and the 2 recent games I guess figured that they were made so people could get off to them and write bizarre fan fiction involving them. I should confess I have not played much of 2, in fact the only ones I really played were 1 3 and 4, but I had a feeling that I should avoid the movie, the PSP game as well as the recent one. Judging by what I've heard thus far, my feelings didn't lead me wrong.
Yes, Homecoming was FULL of monsters and various indications that we should be assuming that the main character had some sort of issue with women-- only for it to never once be followed up on. Both it and Origins were frustrating like that.
The movie is fun as long as you're not expecting it to make sense, or be even remotely close to the games outside of bare-bones plot and basic atmosphere. Origins and Homecoming both have their own strengths, but in the end, the first four games are the best.
Definitely play 2 all the way through if you can, it's a wonderful game.

HARHARHARHAR. PLAY AWAY!
Yeah, I love the hell out of this game and its brethren, I really just can't get enough of it. Which is actually kind of sad considering I have no game systems of my own.
Those are both great scenes. I'd have to say my favorite is probably the prelude to the fight with Eddie or the one the drawing is of. OVERALL THERE'S JUST TOO MANY GOOD MOMENTS TO CHOOSE FROM.

Eddie: XC FROM NOW ON I'M GOING TO KILL ANYONE WHO MAKES FUN OF ME
James: >8c are you CRAZY?
Eddie: .................... *slowly turns around*
James: 8(; ..... <8D;;;
Well, I definitely feel like the newer ones had a lot of potential. There was some great design work and character concepts in BOTH of them and I'd have really liked to see them played out to their full extent. But unfortunately, different teams did them and both of them tried way, way, WAY too hard to make them more juiced-up versions of SH2. They were so busy trying to cram the 'classic' Silent Hill traits in (characters with issues, etc) that they wound up with all the traits but little, if any of the meaning.
The original games were works of art that stood all by themselves-- trying too hard to be like them instead of coming up with new stuff that stayed true to the spirit but was still a legit expansion of the story...
TL;DR: I did like them, but even though the teams' hearts were in the right place, they basically threw all the 'SH ingredients' into a pot and expected it to turn out awesome without paying enough attention to the creative stuff that WOULD have made the games awesome. XD

Yeah def. 8( It made me sad, because both Origins AND Homecoming had so much potential. There was a lot in them that genuinely impressed me, but... then there was also a lot that made me just facepalm. Like Pyramid Head just kind of randomly cruising in like "o lol hay guise. *stabs someone* lol bye."
Hmm... I'd say it was a tie between 3 and 4.
3 is my favorite game and has some of the most genuinely heartwrenching AND spine-chilling moments, at least for me. But... on the other hand... 4 has this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.....23_35_17_1.jpg
Yeah.

ugh, 4 was GREATNESS, it scared me the most, but the second one with headphones on is PRETTY SCARY though.
The freakiest parts of the 4th one were the ghosts so far they've been the only monster that's actually freaked me out entirely. (especially dead Cynthia) but the 3rd was just oh my god ORGASMIC heather was such a thrilling protagonist and the ending was just WOW (fresh god fetus anyone?) i loved how nicely it tied into the first one, to bad for harry though ; A ;!
the new ones had so many chances to have a deeper meaning (especially with the monsters) but it decided to revolve around children and family problems
"LOL whut, dad you've been hanging in this apartment for all this time?"
"I love you travis....BLARGH" *monstar freak out!*
"KAY THNX" *assult rifle'd* WTF kind of ending was that in origins? The demon thing, WTF
other than SH i've been playing Dead Space which all be it has no real deep intricate meaning is still just amazingly awesome
TL;DR
SH 2, SH 4, SH 3, SH, SH-H, SH-O
Dead Space, RE4, RE5 <-- disapointed!

My general opinion in 4 is that most of the fightable monsters weren't as scary, but the game more than made up for it by making everything ELSE terrifying. The ghosts were pretty scary too.
And YES, Heather is my FAVORITE Silent Hill character. She had so much personality and her VOICE especially made her stand out. And yeah the ending wtf, it was amazing. And gross. But mostly amazing.
I'm a huge continuity nerd, so I really love seeing the connections between the games and really puzzling out just how it all fits together. Which is why the newer ones just aren't as good for me. They focused less on CONNECTING the games to the earlier ones and more on OMG HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS AWESUM LIKE THE OTHERS? UM... LET'S JUST PUT PYRAMID HEAD AND LOTS OF BOOBS IN LOL!
Hahaha to be fair, that scene freaked me the hell out. But yeah, overall Origins felt more like a little spinoff than a real SH game, and all the continuity issues really bugged me. It had a lot of potential, even with the 'family problems' plot (especially, even), but overall it felt rushed, and... yeah random generic demon at the end that was nothing like normal SH monsters.
I chose to explain that in my personal continuity by just saying that since Travis is a 'good ol' boy', he'd probably be pretty scared of Satan. Still, though, it was pretty lame.

yes 4 was just scary to me all around.
Out of all the other protagonists Heather was definitely the most interesting, i loved how she had personality to her observations.
CONTINUITY NERD!? MEH TU! GO TEAM VENTURE!
but yes it's like they didn't even pay attention to the reason Pyramid Head existed (guilt felt by someone who's killed someone) hell Alex killed his brother yes but they didn't play on that hardly at all >:G
Me too that scene was freaky but i laughed when i thought about it. The thing about origins is that they tried to mix the first and second together (no pyramid head but we gots A BUTCHARR !!1!)
rushed? very. it felt like they had no ending created and just crossed the bridge when they reached it.
"anyone have any ideas for an ending? Scott didn't finish the fuggin' story"
"uhhh, how about we have travis fight a monster made up of two children that represent abuse or something?"
"PSSSH! who let a SH fan in here?! Just throw in a demon who is extremely easy to kill and we'll wrap it up with Travis finding his truck and driving off."

CONTINUITY FOREVERRRRRR.
Yeah, in the end the story surrounding Alex was weak. It would have done just fine if you took out the Pyramid Head association, as then the game would have been about the terrible secret of the town, rather than trying to lump in an unrelated twist using the personal monster of a DIFFERENT CHARACTER.
And YES UGH, THE BUTCHER. I just like to pretend he doesn't exist. Travis and Alex both make better characters when you eliminate the James-ripoff parts.
I wouldn't have even minded the 'drives away' ending if it hadn't been so abrupt.

exactly the developers must've seen the fan base for the 2nd one and been all
"people love PH right? so lets put in an EXACT COPY only he has HALF a helmet and a big butcher knife!!!!"
everyone else: "WTF????"
