I do a lot of polyp pics. But I find them to be fun. They aren't super difficult to draw because they're pretty simple shapes, but that makes it a challenge to find ways to work the designs of the characters into them so that they're still recognizable for who they are. It's a fun little minimalist experiment for me. And I can draw them pretty fast, which is why I give a discount on them for commissions (if anybody ever takes me up on it).
In any case, I'd made up my mind that I was going to do a big group pic with the Sailor Scouts. I was thinking, 'five characters, each design distinct, have fun working that out.' Except when I started to pull up references for the sailor scouts, one thing became immediately apparent. All five of the main scouts have the exact same base design. The only thing different on them is the hairstyle and eye color. So that presented a whole new challenge. Since they didn't' have distinctive features in their designs (other than hair, which felt like cheating to me), I decided to try and use posture and body language to show who they were instead. And then, after I did the initial five, I was like, "why not add Chibi-Moon and the outer planet scouts, too? Just for completion sake?" So, I did, and I'm glad I did because it makes the garden seem more crowded and uncomfortable, which is what I wanted.
Overall, I'm pleased with the final result. I think, if you really do know the characters from the show, you *can* tell who they all are for the most part. The only one that's a bit of a stretch is Sailor Saturn. I like the design I came up with, but it doesn't have anything about it that directly connects to her, except contextually, because of her size. It works, but I do wish I could have come up with something more apparent to link her to her new shape. Oh, well, nothing is ever perfect. And, as I said, I do like how the overall design came out.
See if you can guess which ones are which? A couple of them are obvious, the rest might take a bit of work and some knowledge of the show, but if I did it right, you should be able to figure it out without me telling you.

Well, there are two other people who I've seen do them on DA, but one is still at extreme amateur skill level, and the other is super busy with work and doesn't have time to draw much. And there was a third guy who used to do it, but he stopped for reasons he never explained. And there are a couple who've drawn it because I commissioned them to, but I don't really count them since they wouldn't have done it on their own.
So, yeah, I'm one of the few.
