I've been working on this piece, off and on, for about a year. I finally finished it over the weekend, and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. I wanted to emphasize the golden-brown tones this time, rather than the vibrant reds and oranges. I picked up a bit more red in his wings than I'd originally intended, but I really like the color harmony that developed and decided to keep it. Also, MOOOONS.
This is Prismacolor Premier colored pencil over a watercolor base. Most of the watercolor is covered up this time. That's kind of a shame, but there's a lot of dragon to love, too. There's some gold paint pen effects for the stars, as well.
