This budgerigar has had it tough. Both his parents died suddenly one after the other over the last few days, totally healthy looking birds and no change in thier behaviour. We didn't see it coming.
Alone in a little nest box sat this little guy. The other birds in the flight started to try and attack it, but I decided I had to take him under my wing. I couldn't watch them destroy him.
Needless to say Pudding is not impressed at my love and attention being stolen form her by this... thing. She's sulking right now, but I hope she will get used to having him around.
Thought I'd share. It's funny, I was talking to a fellow member
svarta-perlan about hand rearing birds just today/yesterday, then this little bundle ends up in my hands.
Despite their "ugly" appearance, I adore baby birds. I even think they are gorgeously cute.

Yeah though one winter, we had a ranch and we had rabbits though the mother didnt want to take care of her babies in the cold snowy season so my mother tried to take care of the little baby rabbits and she stayed up and messed up her sleeping and work schedual but one by one they died off and the last one my mother had open'd its eyes to look at her and later died, my mother was ridden with grief.
I hand reared birds for ten years. You can easily get bird formula and feeding suringes at petstores. Your gunna have to set up a feeding schedual, even for the middle of the night probably if he's too young. But if the parrents died suddenly for no reason I would do a full cleaning of the cage with bleach to try and prevent others from dying.
:P Thanks for your advice, but I have also hand-reared birds over a good number of years, and many different animals too. He was outside in a flight so he's well rid of his nest etc, I gave him a little tub with fleecey lining to sit in. I have been feeding him just over the hour (and cleaning him up to prevent any illness getting him) at first as he seemed distressed and hungry. He is still calling me to feed him (it is 3 am!) I am well used to rearing, don't worry. He may be a couple of weeks old. I've reared them from hatchlings before and it's tough. Glad to meet toher people who have experienced handrearing, it's a wonderful experience though tiring. He's gonna eat less soon at least, I haven't reared for a few years but I'm picking it up again fast. He's so cute. I am prepared for him to die if his parents were ill too as sad as I would be. It's tough but at least I can give him a chance.
