kojo said....your subject matter in this photo is a little hard to get right since the working distance on a 50mm lens is so small
-as i have been told by other photographers...full manual is your best option when it comes down to macro shots, and a flash is usually very helpful

but see...you are wrong there.....to properly use a flash, you need to make the F-stop really high...most of my macro shots are at F22, iso 100, and a shutter speed of 1/160.....its also a good idea to diffuse the flash so that what you are saying does not happen.....but every professional i talk to uses a flash with their macro shots.....you just have to know how to do it
