That Day, Part 9 - Theatrics (W.I.P)
For the tiny handful of people who actually care, here's the next chapter of 'That Day', my least popular story.
I'm marking this and all future chapters I post as 'work in progress' as I plan to give the whole of 'That Day' a further rewrite when it's all done, so please keep that in mind. But I thought a few people might like to see this regardless. I've also uploaded this one as a txt file, to make it easier for people to read, to see how that works out.
This was a bit of a challenging chapter to write. I always knew I wanted their second date to be a trip to the theatre, but it was tough figuring out how much of the play itself to include for people who might not be familiar with it, while not including too much and keeping the focus on Harvey and oliver, as it's their story. I ended up minimising the play a little in the process, but I think it works.
And of course, this chapter I introduce a new character we may or may not see again at some point, I am unsure at this stage. And then at the end, I finally get back to something I set up many chapters back, just as I always intended.

Interesting. Honestly this relationship is one of the more realistic ones that could come out of such a situation as theirs, and we still don't know everything about it all.
I'm not sure which one yet, even after all these chapters, that I relate to more. I've been on both ends of relationships, and I've had the same thoughts as both Oliver and Harvey. I think that, most of all, has me knowing that there will be many problems ahead, but at the same time I'm rooting for them to come out better off than when they came in. It's a love story that doesn't play at a fantasy ending, as Oliver acknowledges, nobody's perfect and despite that he really loves Harvey, and vice versa. They both have a lot of baggage that complicates things. And using the play as a way to help Oliver come to some conclusions really helped, since it felt very him, that he'd use theater to work though inner thoughts.
While I'd love to see more of Richard, I'm on the fence on how it could be done. I'd hate for him to turn out to be just the guy trying to break up the relationship, especially when they've got themselves that can derail that if too many misunderstandings happen. However, it would be an external influence that they as a couple would need to overcome, rather than their internal conflicts. Perhaps he's also incredibly lonely and desperate, hiding his weakness behind his apparent bravado and suave personality. Interesting thought, but I look forward to whatever decision you reach regarding him. :)
I really do enjoy reading That Day, I'm just terrible at writing any constructive input. I'm looking forward to your next bit. :D

Not sure how much this will mean to you, but I just want you to know how happy it always makes me when you release new chapters to this story. In part, because I relate to Harvey on so many levels, and also because it just seems so real. Many writers on FA don't put much effort into creating real relationships and character development into their stories, many more don't even try. I feel genuine emotion when I read your stories, especially this one, and I always find myself eager to know what happens next. Love the story, love you, and keep up the good work.
