If you like to eat, sure it's great for that.
My cousin had to adapt a lot when he moved from Switzerland, I remember him saying "Except in good (and expensive) restaurants, food is crap! For example in France you have dozens of soft bread in shops, here you have only two! ... And both taste awful!"
At the contrary, several Swiss came where I work and all were amazed by how good was the food at our modest work restaurant

But yes cooking is very important in our culture and studying cooking here is serious as fuck!
Not sure if it's a big loss, French restaurants are often rather expensive outside France, unlike Italians for example who tend to be rather cheap.
But if you like cooking I'm sure you cane experiment french recipe at home, I could ask some advice to my mother if needed, she's really good at cooking.

Folk wisdom - "if it is expensive doesn't mean good" expensive restaurants are chasing prestige usually feeding on the rarity of beautifully presented dishes that taste sorry, worse as Chinese sublimate... It's frustrating...
