Getting ahead of myself, maybe. But who knows what tomorrow will bring? Heatstroke, probably. So this gets posted early.

One thing I dont like about labor unions is that they are not where the need to be anymore. Most of what you hear about unions is either Really really good, or Really really bad. Obviously without unions you go back to the good old days of people working for nothing in horrible conditions with no benefits. Then again, when unions get too powerful they become just as bad as corporations, bullying people to do what they say, extorting members, and leaving you with less then you started with before they even came along.
I say they need to be in places they are not because places where they are very powerful... well, they are just too powerful. But there are still lots of places that NEED unions. Places where they start you working with next to nothing with piss awful hours and no benefits, and just when you are about to be there long enough to get good pay and benefits, they cut you loose for some bullshit reason and just hire someone new at the bottom to keep their work force cheap.

That has a lot to do with labor unions' historical relationships with organized crime. Generally, they're more effective labor-unions without the organized crime involvement. The more effective they are as labor unions, the more tempting it is for other causes to hijack their name and reputation.
I think you'd enjoy reading Unequal Protection by one Thom Hartmann. He's got a lot of good books. We the people, Screwed, Cracking the Code, What would Jefferson Do? he also does a radio talk show, 9 to noon or noon to three depending on what coast you're on. Kicks butt on Limbaugh any time they are in parallel time-slots.

One problem, the corporate greedheads you are railing about don't exist.
Corporations are run by people, they are run by CEOs who are beholden to boards of directors who are beholden to shareholders... who are the shareholders? Anyone and everyone, from fat-cats like Donald Trump to any Joe Schmoe with a 401K. Thing is, the board of directors are Legally Obligated to give the shareholders the highest return on investment that they can. Lots of people get proxy statements asking them to vote for things in corporate policy they don't understand whose names they only know as unintelligable symbols on stock-tickers. When it says 'The board suggests voting X' they are meeting their obligation not to suggest the most prudent course, but simply the most profitable.
