Newly hatched baby Tesla! Which I just realized is kinda ironic considering today’s official prompt was “old duck” but hey, Tesla’s a rebel.
First time Megs gets to hold his baby girl ♥ She actually hatched during a heist gone very wrong that Megavolt and Quackerjack were more or less forced into by Negaduck (not a normal mission btw, but I’ll get into that if I ever actually write this story). They didn’t want to bring the egg, but finding an eggsitter that can produce a constant supply of electricity isn’t exactly easy. She was actually supposed to be several weeks away from hatching, but the whole situation deteriorated so rapidly that it stressed her out and triggered her to hatch prematurely.
Megavolt was busy keeping the egg and Quackerjack safe while she hatched, so he didn’t actually get to see her “birth”, but that didn’t stop him from immediately falling in love with her as soon as he was able to hold her. Of course, in true Quackerjack offspring fashion she spent about 5 seconds being mesmerized by this giant rat thing before curiosity turned into “Ooo whiskers are fun to play with!” but Megs still adores her (and I’m sure QJ is over there being ridiculously proud of his itty bitty terror).
Some headcanon clarification on how I view bird births vs mammal births: mammals have the usual 9 month gestation of a human (for the sake of consistency) while birds will carry their egg for about 4 months before laying it, and then the baby develops for about 6 more months before actually hatching. As a result, bird babies are slightly more developed than their mammalian counterparts which is why Tesla is already able to hold her head up on her own and react more to Megavolt. I’m sure you will hear more silly anthro baby facts from me in the near future.
Side note: tail heart was not my idea. Inspired by a Tumblr picture.
