ok, so the fur is finally done. Added whiskers, eyelashes, fur on the ears, fur inside the ears; finally put a new color map on it all.

This was supposed to be the final color, but I am not fond of how sharp the "brows" and the dark ring around the eyes turned out. This will need some blurring and/or toning down. Also, the brow looks generally stupid for some reason. And the red is really REALLY red and may want some darkening and desaturation. I wish I weren't a perfectionist.

These are two different maps by the way: one for the fur and one for the skin below. They are based off the same template, but the dark lips only exist in the skin texture, and the skin is also darkened and detailed in some places. I had hoped for a more distinct effect actually; less subtle would be more in this case...
