''Aren't you going to answer her?'' asked Simba's mother.

Scowling, he shook his head.

''You're not afraid, are you?'' asked his mother, and he shook his head again. ''Well, then, go ahead!'' And she pushed him with her nose. ''Go on, say hello'' she told him firmly, in a motherly, no-nonsense voice. Simba cleared his throat. He pawed the ground a little. Then he glowered up at Nala.

''H'lo'' he croaked.
