I love chickens. I totally understand why you might be afraid of parrots. I sort of was nervous with her at first cuz she used to bite me a lot and it drea blood. But to be honest, the more you are daring and unafraid the less they bother to bite cuz it gets no reaction. She hardly bites me but she occasionally nips when she's in a bad mood or I startle her by mistake.
Yup :) Here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1637298/
Her name was Roxy. I hand tamed her when she was a fledgeling cuz her parents abandoned her and she was not able to eat or anything. We were really close, but she was very sickly all the time until a month before she died. It was really sudden, really sad. I did my best for her though and loved her to bits. That's why I ended up with Pudding, because I felt such a huge gap where Roxy had been.
^^;; I love Tiels. I love most birds though, but Tiels are full of character and are very sweet.

I agree with you 100%. Yesterday I got a bit annoyed when my friend said "I don't like birds... they don't give you much affection for what you put in and you can't hug them" I was like RAGE *throttle* XD So hard to convert someone who doesn't get it though. Each to their own but I get a bit defensive about it cuz all my birds have been awesome. Pudding is so affectionate but not in a snuggly way, she nibbles and goes all soppy when I tickle her neck and she is protective. I was trying to explain but he didn't get it. Fail. :P
you know, my fiancé was terrified of birds when we first met. he wouldn't even go near ducks. now I've convinced him that pet chickens ARE fun pets to have. XD we don't have any yet, but soon! and he has developed an interest in birds in general and loves to go birdwatching with me. :)
parrots have very individual personalities so maybe your friend has just not met any good tempered ones yet? :/ I used to have a budgie when I was a kid. he took baths with me, ate at the table with me, watched tv with me, woke me up in the morning for school (mom would let him out and he would fly into my room, peek under my sheets and whistle and nibble at me to wake me up), and he always kissed me goodnight. it was so sweet. I miss him so much. ;__;
your pudding sounds like a very, very sweet little bird. and she's so cute too. :3 I would love to own a lovebird at some point.

Awww I started off with budgies. My mum has aviaries with them in plus a lot of other little birds. The first time she put nest boxes in their they went nuts laying eggs and some of them had trouble feeding their babies, resulting in a few that didn't make it, but I stepped in and took two under my care. They were pretty big when I got them so it wasn't so hard to do, but I did the same again the next year cuz there were 6 chicks abandoned. I fed all of them up from when they were only a few days old and had 6 noisy little things waking me up all the time. I had to take them around college with me in a little nest in a bag because they need feeding so often. Was weird I guess but I was dedicated.
(Sorry if this is boring btw lol)
When I had these 6 chicks, I also had to take in Lutino (albino yellow) coloured Lovebird. I called him Dino cuz he seriously looked like a dinosaur. He was adorable so I would recommend hand rearing or getting a hand reared lovebird. Then I moved on to lots of other birds including blue-tits and sparrows and also doves.
I think Lovebirds are gorgeous, but they seem to be quite aggressive despite their cute name :P!
I also keep Chickens and Ducks myself :) I have 3 hens and a cockerel and I have a drake and four females. I hope you get some of your own cuz they're brilliant pets, and I LOVE eggs!!
I also like babbling lol XD But I hope it might be interesting to you!!
As for my friend, I think he got attacked by a bird when he was really little so I guess he doesn't get it. My current boyfriend's never really had many pets but he really likes Pudding, and she likes him. She is a bit of a nervous bird and gets quite aggressive sometimes when people are too forward with her but she is getting better.

oh wow, so you've been around birds since you were young? that's great. :3 I've never had experience hand rearing birds, but it's something I'm very interested in. it's amazing you actually carried those baby budges around with you, it's something I can easily see myself doing, so I don't find it weird at all. X3
and no worries, you're not boring me. quite the opposite. :3 I tend to babble on about stuff I love too, so I understand how excited you can get when someone is actually interested in listening. XD
so you have chckens too? and ducks? that's awesome! I would love to get 2-3 hens, but since I'm in the city, a rooster isn't allowed. I wouldn't want them to breed anyway, as I'd have a hard time giving the babies away. ;__;
it's quite possible I might be moving abroad within 2 years or so, so I don't want to get more than just 2-3 chickens while I'm still here. mom loves chickens too and wants to own and take care of them with me, so they'd still have a loving home with my mom even if I went abroad. I dream of an outdoor aviary too, and I can't really do that here (iceland)...but I can once I'm living somewhere warmer. :)

I think my first Budgie came to us when I was about 8ish. We were driving and it landed on our windscreen. We had no idea what it was, my mum asked around if anyone had lost him, but no one knew where he was from. So we took him home and had to read up on keeping him happy. He ended up to be very loved, his name was Oscar.
He lived a short time, because he was old. We took him the vet and learned about how his head barring had relation to his age. I was only little but I really liked him, and when I was a few years older and no longer had Oscar, my mum let me have two budgies of my own. Then I had a cockatiel, but eventually he got put outside cuz he was just not tameable. He was a lot happier out in the aviary when my mum set it up and bought some tiels and lovebirds.
My mum also keeps other parakeets, we had a Kakariki who adopted my brother, and after that my mum wanted her own so she bought some of those. She also bough two grass parakeets and a couple of Lineolated Parakeets, and two Celestial Parakeets. They're adorable but really really shy and timid, so they were happy just to stay together in a safe place in the aviary. We had four flights but reduced them to two now.
My sister was the one who wanted chickens. We took in some old battery hens, to give them another chance at a good life. They had been terribly mistreated and it taught us a lot about how to care for them properly, and also made us appreciate that buying free range eggs and foods was important. They laid eggs for us even though we were told they might not because they'd been through so much and were worn out. When they passed away we got some young hens and we've had all sorts ever since.
We live in the countryside so cockerels are allowed. People don't mind around here about the noise, ours is fairly quiet. Our first cockerel was huge and very sweet. One afternoon a fox came and attacked the hens, but our cockerel fended him off and fought him. We rushed out when we heard the commotion to find him injured really badly, but the hens were safe and he'd fought nearly to death to protect them. We had to nurse him back to health, but he couldn't walk very well and seemed unhappy, and we made the decision to put him to sleep under the vet's advice. That's why we keep a cockerel now, because he did such a good job of protecting his harem!
I got a lot of attention carrying around my chicks. They used to sit out when I was in class. I went to an animal college so it was accepted well, though some people didn't like it because "they might carry diseases". I had to hide them most of the time, but some tutors didn't mind. My class thought I was a bit weird but I didn't care. How can I leave babies to die?? I can't... I never do. I ended up with 6 beautiful lilac, pastel blue and grey coloured budgies who went and lived outside in my aviary for a long long time.
When you can do it, I really hope you have a chance to hand-feed some birds. They become so docile and sweet. It's also incredibly rewarding and special. You feel so proud when you see your perfect little birdies grow up too. And of course, you get the warmth and love back when they are able to fend for themselves.
I just think it's an amazing thing to be able to do. I've also handreared an owl, a fox cub, hedgehogs... baby rabbits and baby guinea pigs. :) You get some losses, specially with wild animals, but on the whole it's all very happy. :D

XD I saw that one.
Yeah, sounds like my birdy lol.
We just picked her up from the bird sitter today so I've been trying to get some good pics of here.
It was sooooo cute!
She hopped on my shoulder and snugged under my chin XD
She kept making all these cute little chirp noises! I missed her so much >.<
